HOWARD BINGHAM CONSTRUCTION

At first, Steve was very accommodating and willing to work around our schedule. He had engineers evaluate our job, put much thought into it, and made several suggestion options. Our house was moving and we had cracked walls and ceilings. The job started 3 weeks late, which was difficult. The workers were great and left the job clean. Unfortunately, after the job was finished and paid for, we called twice concerning more cracks. Both times, Steve promised to come look and he never showed up. They were very helpful until they were paid. I cannot quote on quality as we can't see it!

Steve Abbott, the owner/manager, seemingly omitted on purpose several items from his initial bid/proposal, making the total cost seem reasonable at the outset. Additional materials/work he failed to include made the cost soar to more than 50% above the initial bid price. Mr. Abbott threatened to stop work if we did not pay him for work yet to be completed. He fought with other sub-contractors, blamed other sub-contractors for his crew's mistakes, would not take responsibility for his errors, charged us additionally for errors he made, and was nine months late completing the project, according to the schedule he provided. He also took back materials already furnished and then wanted to charge us additionally for a ''change order'' to return and install them. We finally had to hire an attorney to force him to complete the work. I felt he was dishonest and deceptive in his business practices and would absolutely not recommend him.

Bingham was recommended by the framing contractor I was working with, he indicated they did quality work at a fair price. Foolishly, I did not ask for an estimate, nor did they provide one, in violation of the Oregon Construction Contractors Board, which "requires all construction agreements be committed to written contract, if the price exceeds $2000". Their billing was at least three times as much as it should have been, according to other siding contractors I contacted after the job was completed. Bingham refuses to revise their billing. I would not recommend this company.

It was excellent- the quality of the work & honesty of the bid. They were very up front. They were very cooperative & friendly. We were very impressed with them.
