Ryan Goosman installed a new a/c unit last fall. I initially paid him for the unit itself before he ordered it, in August, then waited for him to install -- for two months. By that time the weather had cooled off. The install seemed to go ok and the unit works fine as far as I can tell. At that time I paid him for his labor. Fast forward to March of this year. We had the house inspected and were told that a copper line (I believe it's the suction line) needed to be insulated. Obviously an oversight by Ryan. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't mind the mistake as long as he fixes it. So I gave him call. He said he would be out soon to take care of it. He never showed. I followed up with calls at least a dozen times. Several times he said he would be out that day or the next. Never showed. It's now June 22nd -- three months later. Still never showed. I put the insulation on myself because it's supposed to reach 100 this week. Not sure if I did it correctly, but it's better than nothing. If you consider hiring Ryan, keep in mind that it's a huge hassle to get him to show up. If you do hire him, make sure you don't pay him until the work is done and inspected by 3rd party it to make sure it is done completely and correctly. If you need to get him back out to correct a mistake after you've paid him, he'll never show.
