Overall, it has been a very trying experience. We had a hand in the blame as well. #1 ALWAYS GET A WRITTEN CONTRACT, don't be put off by the contractors lack of enthusiasm. Our guy responded with, "What, don't you trust me?" Get references etc. If the contractor is credible, that will not be a problem. In our case, we are both wholly involved in this construction. This can be a bonus and a problem, we see it as a bonus since we know what's going on all the time. It has made it easier to find the mis measurements and other problems quickly.
Description of Work: My husband and I are almost 3 years into building a straw bale home. We hired this contractor under the impression he knew about straw bale homes and the requirements for them. We have had to go back and redo mistakes he made at our own cost. This includes minor deconstruction in order to re-construct to the county's liking. This contractor would show up at the home site not knowing what needed to be done next, measurements were off, mis-information was passed along to us. All around a very bad scene. We terminated his services months ago, but feel the need to tell others about him.
