We were in a bind. Our aging drain lines had failed in the crawlspace during the summer and the water abatement company did not properly route the condensate drain from the dehumidifier into the toilet or shower. Grey water had entered the soil and had to be removed as well as the soil moisture rectified. As a result, two hours later there was an inch of water in the bathroom. This caused the vinyl floor to lift. Upon removing the old shower base, we uncovered some old drywall that had been wet. As a result, we decided to proceed with a full bathroom remodel, gutting it to the studs. I did all of the demolition work as well as the rough carpentry required to prepare for the drywall. The previous bathroom remodel done by the prior owner had been very poorly done where they converted a bedroom next to the main bathroom into a master bathroom when a master bedroom addition was done to the house in the 1980s.
I served as the designer for the bathroom and hired a plumber to address the required 'rough in' wet and drain line changes and help me install a new FiberFab shower (great shower by the way, built in Gervais, Oregon). This involved moving the toilet by 10 inches, swapping the corner shower to instead be in place of the existing shower, correcting holes in the subfloor, installing vinyl underlayment material and leveling the floor, rewiring, insulating, installing new drywall, new vanity and fixtures, and so forth. As has been true with each place in this house that the prior owner touched, there were hidden and stupid things done inside the walls. Hidden electrical junction boxes. Electrical routed within the studs in the shower wall and touching the copper plumbing. More issues that had to be corrected that aren't discussed here.
I had quotes from another contractor recommended from a friend but also had prior successful experience with Perfect Touch Drywall. I chose to go with who I had before (Perfect Touch) and am pleased with the result.
They installed new drywall appropriate for a wet environment, did an excellent job of tape and texture, and completed it on time with our tight schedule. Drywall is a messy job and they did their best to keep things clean by laying down paper and such in the house. There was some drywall dust tracked about but not anything that I couldn't easily clean. One nit was a hole that was slightly larger than I would have liked for the rough in plumbing at the toilet, but I was able to easily rectify this with a piece of trim. Another nit is that there was more spackle/mud left in the shower stall than I would have liked (they cleaned it up) and I would have liked to have it better covered to prevent this from happening. They cleaned it up and removed the mud without damaging the shower surface.
Based on my second experience with Perfect Touch Drywall, I would use them again and intend to do so when we remodel our master bathroom and tiny galley kitchen. Now I just have to save my pennies for awhile to afford those remaining projects on our home. Both of these will involve stripping the walls to the studs / ceiling to the joists due to removing a wall and install an island, moving a sink, etc. I'm sure that I will find one or two more things that the prior owner did that was stupid as has been the case with every area that I have done on this house, but those are the two remaining areas that are left to remodel.
worked very hard, they were polite and friendly, they did a great job
cleaning up.
The vendor accommodated all my really accommodated all my schedule changes, which I appreciate.
I have more ceiling to be done, I will definitely use Perfect
Touch again . . .
He was on-site to survey the proposed work, and provided an estimate with in a couple days of our initial email.
The drywall crew was punctual and provided the contracted services. The guys were personable and respectful. They set up and went to work upon arrival. They took care to protect the walls, masking and tapping the walls. Paper on floors for protection and cleanup.
The clean up was acceptable, it's a messy event to texture the ceilings.
We had the advantage of not yet being moved in.
I recommend Perfect Touch Drywall, and will hire them again for our next project.
"Sorry there was a miscommunication, the project was completed in 2 days. The 1st Day my crew arrived 1st thing in the morning as discussed, when they finished work that day homeowner asked my guys when they would be back instructed my employee to say we would be back in the morning around the same time. I didn't think there was any issue with the information. All I could think of is customers had hired another company 1st and that fell through, customer and I played some phone tag initially but that went both ways. I do apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for the business"
Perfect Touch provided, installed and finished the sheet rock in a studio area with 12' walls, all work was performed well, they did a good job at a reasonable price and I am comfortable recommending them as a good contractor to work with.
Here again, wish I could upload my pictures - Beautiful!
Work requested: Spray texture on all walls and ceilings, with heavier amount of texture over pre-existing 'skip-trowel' texture that was on the ceilings on some of the rooms.
Shawn arrived on time (over 15+ minutes earlier than scheduled, in fact), and got right to work. With his experience and his trailer-mounted mixer/pump/compressor, he was quick to completely spray texture to all surfaces as requested. He waited patiently as I 'reviewed' all areas to verify evenness and quality of the spray . . . ALL of which I found to be very satisfactory. He cleaned up after himself, leaving exterior porch/driveway area neat and clean. Job well done.
Overall, I am considered to be detail-oriented and 'picky' in the quality of work completed, therefore usually completing the work myself. In the case of "like-brand-new-home" appearance on my 50-year-old duplex walls, proper wall finish requires good equipment AND a professional that has the experience and technique to apply it correctly and evenly. I am very happy I discovered Perfect Touch, as Shawn definitely is a professional and has earned my respect. In the future I will hire his company for sheetrock installation and finish as more renovations are forthcoming.
