GAIL FENCE

In November 2006, Jered Gail Fencing built a wood fence at our house. In the spring/summer of 2007, we noticed some issues with the fence. Knots were falling out and a couple of fence boards were warping. On one section of fence, the contractor had also stuck the fence boards into the ground rather than clearing the dirt away as was the case with the rest of the fence. We also discovered that several sections had not been nailed (stapled) correctly. The staples had missed completely. We tried to contact Mr. Gail but got no response from either phone calls or a letter sent in July of 2007. In the meantime, we corrected the stapling and dirt issues ourselves and figured we could live with a few knots falling out. We also began sealing the fence with the recommended fence sealer. In the spring of 2008, we noticed additional and more severe problems with the fence. Many more boards were warping, many more knots have fallen out and several fence posts (4 x 4) have twisted badly. One is at a gate and the gate will now just barely shut. Any more twisting and that gate will be unusable. We had to replace a spring on the latch that broke due to the twisting. One post has twisted far enough that it is pulling the metal brackets out. Several top rails have visibly warped. The lattice work is of poor quality and is already falling apart. The contract called for "premium grade" cedar fence boards. We don't believe that the material used qualifies as premium grade by any standards. We have tried to contact Mr. Gail by phone and by mail several times during all of this and he refuses to return our calls or respond to our letters. We filed a report with the Better Business Bureau and he failed to respond. (At this time, we noted that there were two other complaints filed through BBB and he had not responded to those either.) We are now contemplating taking him to small claims court. Under no circumstances would we ever do business with Mr. Gail again!
