I discovered one of my solartube was leaking and I couldn't get anyone to come out--and it kept raining. Finally got a hold of Shawn. He came out, figured out what was going wrong, and fixed it for what I considered to be a very reasonable rate taking into account the amount of time he spent. He also took the time to explain the issue and his fix. I would totally hire him for any work I needed done on my house.

Shawn was there on time with his helper and did a great job installing the skylight. It is beautiful and lets in an enormous amount of light in the kitchen/dining room. Plus the skylight has remote control run off of solar energy. Hence I even recieved an energy credit for installing it.

Overall I was very impressed with Green city Solar. From the minuet I contacted Shawn to inquire about the service he was very responsive to all my questions and needs. He found us the appropriate unit and assisted with making sure I installed it correctly (they install these units, I just chose to do it myself)

Installed skylights. The project went fast and professional, with no problems. They were nice guys, and left the place clean despite all the sawing through my roof.
I'll happily use them again in the future for more skylights.

They did a very thorough job. It looks great and solved my leak problem. They did the work in a timely fashion - 2 days - though they arrived a little later than they said on the first day. They apprised me of necessary additions to the initial estimate (it was something I had anticipated in this case) and cleaned up well. I am very happy with their work.

I e-mailed Green City and another company with some measurements I took of the old skylights asking if they could give me a general/non-binding estimate of the cost to replace them. Green City responded within a day by e-mail doing just that with a couple of notes on why that estimate might be off (the other company insisted I call in and when I did felt like I was getting the hard sale). We proceeded to get a formal estimate from Green City, letting them know that we might be ready to move forward on the job soon, but also might have to wait a few months (what with the wedding and other work being done on the house). They were ok with this and let us know that they could come out and give us an estimate any time, no need for us to be present. That was a welcome relief given how insane we were at the time. Sure enough, it took us about three months before we felt ready to have another contractor over, even for a one-day job. They honored the now-expired estimate, let us know when the new windows arrived and scheduled a day to do the job (still over e-mail). We set up a lock box for them and left a check, went to work, came back to find the check gone, the window manuals in their place and new skylights where the old ones were.

It was great to work with a contractor who was willing to communicate with me in the medium I preferred, and who made the whole process as painless as possible. It does feel a little odd to have never actually met the person who did the work on my house, but I checked out the skylights visually and we already had a rainfall to test them, so everything looks great.

It went pretty well. They were quite prompt, they communicated whatever was going on, and they seemed to do a good job. It is good quality work so there are no gaps or errors. Their price seemed consistent with the other people we called.

This was easily the best thing we decided to do while preparing our 1902 Victorian farm house for sale last year. For under $3,000, a formerly windowless "closet" bathroom gained additional headroom and the illusion of space from a 30" deck-mounted manual crank Velux skylight.

Shawn Hollman was a pleasure to work with - responsive, personable and always punctual. The job took only 2 days, and was completed within 3 weeks of our initial contact, which was great for summer! I appreciated the use of email as we organized and executed the project - so much easier to track and make sure we're all on the same page. Shawn used a sub-contractor for drywall work, and he was also prompt and worked quickly and cleanly. I have no complaints at all, and our buyers were thoroughly enthusiastic about the bathroom, which we know they would not have been if we had left it as-is.

His expert advice was utterly reliable, his estimate was reasonable, he responded to communications promptly, the final invoice did not exceed the estimate, he and his crew showed up on time and performed the work within the time and in the manner promised. Absolutely first-rate!

Everything went extremely well. Shawn and an assistant covered each area below where the skylights were going with plastic sheeting to keep things clean and, one by one, each of the nine skylights was removed and the new one was installed. In some cases the new skylights were carried across the roof and, for the larger ones, they were lifted from within the house to the roof. Shawn used fasteners (nails with rubber gaskets) which were not the standard ones which came with the product (metal screws) as he felt they gave a better seal against moisture and, upon examining them, it was clearly a better choice. This attention to detail was typical of the professional way that Shawn does his job. When it came time to install the large manually operated opening skylight over the bedroom area, Shawn was incredibly exacting in the positioning of the unit by his assistant on the roof so as to make it look just right from below. After the installation, they took out the plastic floor coverings and additionally checked over and cleaned up everything in the work areas. All the packing materials and old skylights were loaded onto his truck and the driveway was swept clean. In addition, he gave us references for folks who could bid on some related minor repair work for the sun/moisture damage done to some of the wall board over the 19 years the old skylights were in. Throughout the entire process from the initial meeting through the final cleanup, I felt very comfortable that Shawn really knew what he was doing and that doing things right the first time was part of his personal and business ethics. I have recommended him to friends who are considering this sort of renovation.

Shawn (owner of business who also did the work) was very professional, very knowledgeable, and was incredibly efficient and got the skylights in and waterproofed in one day (he finished the framing on another day). He had good advice on what to put in and where exactly to install. He was willing to haggle with me a bit on price and was no nonsense with good paperwork. He responded very quickly to questions online and questions on site. He was fastidious and neat from start to finish and was sharp and fun to engage with. Has a good familiarity with older homes and how work with/ in them. Overall, we were very satisfied - and will working with him again.

I initially called Shawn Hollman on Thursday to discuss the possibility of doing the work. Shawn came over the next day to assess the work needed. That evening he had send the proposal and estimate to me via email. Over the next couple of days I changed my idea of what I wanted to have done and each time Shawn promptly emailed an updated proposal. Shawn and his assistant arrived on time and wasted no time in getting to work. The roof of our house is very steep and the master bath is on the second floor. Once here Shawn found that his ladder was not tall enough to get to the roof. He decided that it would be safer and easier to perform the work from the inside of the attic which worked out great. The first day they installed the two skylights with a combination flashing kit that allowed the skylights to be placed immediately adjacent to each other. Shawn also moved the flashing for a plumbing vent that was in the way of one of the skylights. On the second day Shawn came back by himself and framed in the skylight shafts. Shawn is very efficient and does quality work. I am very happy with the results and I am now considering having him install a couple of solar powered attic fans.

Shawn Hollman is a rare breed - he is an excellent craftsman and businessman. He pays attention to detail and strives to learn more about his trade everyday. He gave us great advice when we designed the installation and came back after the job to help us get even better performance out of the skylights. We trust him and his judgement. We would seriously consider anyone in another of the trades he might refer us to in the future.

Shawn returned my call immediately and scheduled a bid promptly. He coordinated his work with the roofing company so that I could receive a $300.00 Federal Tax credit on the skylights. He arrived on time and worked until the job was done. The roofing job was effortless because Hollman Construction worked with them and completed the job on time.

Excellent. Shawn Hollman was professional and provided excellent quality of work; he evaluated the situation/problem; suggested a solution; performed the work AND cleaned up all debris. Extra kudos for working in the pouring rain for 2 days. Shawn was the only contractor (of 5 that bid the job) that gave a firm bid, did not try to "sell up" and, frankly, the only one who seemed interested in doing the work.

The job went extremely well. Workers arrived punctually Monday morning March 5 as scheduled (pending weather which cooperated). They arrived with all materials needed and began work quietly and efficiently. They cleaned up as they went and upon finishing bagged all leftover materials, cleaned in bathroom and debris from driveway. It poured rain the next day and there were absolutely no leaks. Whenever I looked at progress someone explained what they were doing and gave close approximations on when they would be finished. Fine craftsmen, they appeared confident and prideful of their work. The bid was reasonable and appeared in my email the same day Shawn Holman came by to few the site. I recommend this company very highly and am very pleased with the finished job.

Excellent! The ceiling is lathe and plaster, and he took extra care in order to not crack the rest of the ceiling when he cut the lathe and plaster. As a result, he spent an extra hour but did not charge me for the extra time.
