So I called PDX electric to do some work on a electrical panel my uncle installed for us. Unfortunately my uncle is not an electrician so the City required me to get a professional electrical contractor. My city inspector told me there were very minor adjustments that needed to be done and permits pulled. The adjuster explained it would only be 4 hours worth of work max. When the owner Marty Palmer did the bid for us he came back with a total of roughly $2200.00. When I saw the cost I was extremely concerned due to having only pull permits and 4 hours worth of work. I then called and wanted a price break down. On the bid it was only one lump sum by the way. When I called the office lady Kiley was rude because I wanted a cost break down. She told me when I call I am always mad, which I was not mad but even if I was it’s unprofessional for her to even mention. Then a few days later they declined the work. Meanwhile this has been a 6 week process of them coming out looking and doing the estimate and now I’m in the same place I was before contacting them 6 weeks earlier. Very unprofessional and they will try and rip you off. I understand people need to make money but this was a rip off 100%. I will never again contact this company for anything unfortunately.

I’ve used these electricians for almost a decade and sadly their business is not what it used to be. They used to be friendly, kind and straightforward now they add on every item to confusing optional bids and leave a mess behind. I first started using them in 2013 and for several years it was great until the business grew. Now Marty has several electricians underneath him who have no idea how to check in about work that was written up as optional. This first happened in 2017 when I got a bid to redo my electrical for an adu. Seemed like a reasonable bid but there were several options outlined after the base bid that was unclear to me. The final price tag was a grand more than the base bid and apparently every option had to be done to complete the work.... ok, I was annoyed but figured miscommunication on both sides. After clarifying and talking it out I pay in full over a grand over but am a bit annoyed. Again I’ve been using them for 7 years. So this week, I get a basic bid to install some electric for a dishwasher and garbage disposal and a couple other random items. Again, the bid comes back with 2 option items based on what they find. Before I agree to do the work I call to make sure what’s being quoted and that they would check in with me before doing the options if the electric wasn’t what they thought. I was at my house the entire time while they were working. They Don’t check in and I get billed for every option that’s outlined in the bid. This time I calmly explain that this was truly optional work. I didn’t NEED the garbage disposal for my house to function and wanted to be able to make that choice before I shelled out an extra $400. Instead I get accused of having a “pattern” and trying to nickel and dime them out of money. This is after years of paying them over 10k in electrical work and being a loyal customer and recommender. I told them I’d send them the check and would no longer need their services. If you get a bid and it looks good be prepared for all the up charges of the options they outlined. Lastly this time they left a mess behind with several uneven holes in the wall, dust and debris. The screw plates weren’t even attached properly. I don’t expect things to be spotless after a contractor comes but this was unprofessional. I’ve used several contractors and have renovated an entire house and never had this kind of experience or problems with any kind of bid/ payment issues.

"Dear [Member Name Removed], Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding the electrical scope of work we provided. We apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding that may have occurred. At PDX Electric, we strive to maintain transparency and clarity in all our proposals. We understand that our options at the end of the proposal may have led to some confusion. We would like to clarify that those options are included solely for the purpose of giving our customers the opportunity to consider potential additional projects should they wish to pursue them. At the time you wanted a functioning disposal. The option for a disposal circuit was provided, in case the existing disposal wiring was unprofessional and not a dedicated circuit which is an electrical code requirement. Please be assured that our primary goal is to provide a proposal that clearly outlines the agreed-upon scope of work and to respect our customers' decisions regarding any additional projects. Once again, we appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to clarify our procedures. We remain committed to providing exceptional service for our customers and we never want that to change. Respectfully, Marty Palmer"

Everything went well. They were booked a bit out but other companies were as well. Electrician was able to diagnose and fix a problem another company had failed to fix. Professional and efficient and pleasant to work with.

Max and Sean installed a new 200amp meter, feeder and panel. The meter had to be moved to the opposite side of the house (per City of Portland rules) requiring them to route the feeder from the meter through the attic to the other side of the house where the new panel was installed. They also installed the ground rods. The guys were efficient, professional and courteous. They minimized the time electricity needed to be off. There were a few issues at inspection with the City. PDX Electric sent someone out right away to address the issues which passed the next inspection. Good work, good price.

I recently had to change an old electrical panel that came with our 1974 house. I had used PDX electric about five years ago and was very pleased so I decided to use them again. I am very happy that I did! Everything was great from start to finish. Kiely, the person who answers the phone and coordinates the schedule was very positive and extremely helpful. Marty, the owner, was able to give me a quote by email but looking at photos of the old box. Travis, the electrician, arrived on time, was very careful, and did a very professional job. PDX electric is a gem of a company. I would not hesitate to use them again.

Marty (the owner who also gave the estimate) is thoughtful, very professional and an experienced electrician. This became even more apparent when I had to call Marty regarding the wire gauge (size) that his crew had placed initially. It turned out, once the appliance arrived, that this was not the gauge the appliance specs required and he promptly addressed this and sent a crew to place the correct wiring and installed the appliance. His office is also very friendly and accommodating. Customer service matters and PDX Electric exemplifies it.

Solid work but I found them overbooked and communicating between owner, electrician and front desk girls was always a challenge. I was referred by a friend who had used them. Having spent around $10K with PDX redoing an old house's electrical, I felt I was in good hands most of the way. Our electrician, Dave was great. But the admin side of it left me confused and frustrated. I booked a follow up visit months later for something small and they accepted the appointment but told me it would be 3 months! A few days before this long awaited date, I received an email telling me all the reasons why I was an undesirable client and how I should find another electrician. I was very surprised at this, and after reading their long description of events I realized there were some huge misunderstandings on both sides. This final interaction left me disappointed at the overall professionalism, communication and follow through of the business side of PDX Electric. There is no doubt they are great at what they do but if you value all phases of hiring an electrical contractor, beware my experience: they charmed me to get the job and did great work but they were incredibly overbooked and communication with the owner and front desk girls was rude, slow and created many misunderstandings.

I hired PDX Electric to replace the extremely outdated knob and tube wiring throughout a 1930's cottage I just purchased. From the first bid through the final walk-through they were professional, reliable, and courteous. Their bid was less expensive than some others I received, and they were able to do the extensive rewiring with minimal damage to the plaster walls. When the doorbell wire was accidentally disconnected during the project work they promised to come back and rewire it free of charge. The work was completed on time and on budget, despite a major snow storm that hit Portland the day the project started. I will gladly hire them again for my next project.

Perfectly! The cost was hundreds of dollars less than other bids and they were able to schedule earlier than other companies. The arrived early, were very professional and personable. They did a great job cleaning up after the work was completed, and did everything we asked of them. Highly recommended contractor.

Jimmy arrived early. He went straight to work. He covered the work area in plastic. He found that the chandelier parts for mounting were incorrect. He went to the storehouse and got proper parts. I had to leave to get my kids from school. He closed up when he left. He was professional, honest and focused on getting the job done. I have had 5 different electrical companies out in 5 years. This is the only company I would contact again. They were even slightly less expensive.

The contractor arrived on time. Reviewed the projects and started working right away. The person was very professional and respectful. If he had a question he would ask. He made sure that he wore the booties so he would not bring in dirt from the outside. He went from one project to the next.
I would use them again.

I had to prune my original electrical wish-list a bit to fit within our budget.  Marty was prompt in re-writing and re-sending the proposal which was beautifully clear, detailed and understandable.   I had received bids from 2 other electrical contractors which were impossible to understand and asking 2 to 3 times as much $$ as what PDX bid.

The journeyman who came out to do the work with 2 apprentices was very competent.  Everyone worked hard all day.  I had a new floor outlet put in our living room which ment pulling wire quite a distance in a narrow crawlspace, with no complaints.
