This is a new business in Lake Oswego and the two owners are doing everything right. I phoned for an appointment, got the time slot I wanted, brought the car in for and quot;The Worksand quot; (which is an oil change-plus), was greeted immediately by Jake who wrote up my work order while explaining what they were going to do, and about how long it would take. I spent the time in their spotlessly clean waiting room where I had the opportunity to observe Jake both on the phone and in person with a half dozen customers. In every instance, as he was with me, Jake was friendly, courteous, wholly professional. He explains things in a clear, straightforward way with a welcome absence of the jargon-loaded mech-speak and nonstop pressure to perform work that you neither want nor need. At the end, when he was explaining the work they had done to me, he mentioned that the AC belt was showing cracks. I asked if it needed to be replaced immediately, a question that would have elicited an instant and quot;Yes, absolutely!and quot; from nearly any other shop. He told me No, that it would wait until the next service which would be at 60,000 miles and that it would be wise to replace all 3 belts at that time as they tend to wear at similar rates. Which I will do with full confidence that this is something that really, actually needs to be done. Contrast my experience at JC with the typical dealer (including the one I have gone to for years) where even an oil change provides the basis for a lengthy list of a half dozen things that Have to Be Done and Now. Most often not actual problems, rather problems that and quot;mightand quot; or and quot;couldand quot; happen unless addressed immediately. None of that at JC Car Care. Just the necessary work and an honest assessment of the state of my vehicle with no hard up-service sell. At my request, Jake is going to email me a cost breakdown and itemization of services for my next service, a major one at 60,000 miles along with an estimate for timing belt replacement, something he told me is determined by actual mileage and not, as my dealer service told me over 3 years ago, simply by an arbitrary number of years. According to them, if I didn't replace the timing belt then, this in 2010, my engine would explode within a year. This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. JC is the first garage to give me an honest and accurate time frame for this replacement. All you really want from an independent garage is competence, friendliness, a sincere concern for you as a customer, and honesty in both recommending and performing repairs. JC Care Care checks every box here. It's where I will be taking my car from now on.
