Well, I got "Bait n' Switched" I had Randy Bates, owner of Logtown Electric, come to my residence to supply me with a bid on installing wiring for a hot tub. He supplied me with a verbal bid of $600.00. He stated I would need a permit, I asked him if the price of that permit was included in the bid. Mr. Bates stated yes. He stated I hire him for "Time = Money" which he suggested.
Mr. Bates arrived promptly on Friday and started working right away at 8am. My Hot Tub arrived at 11:00am. Mr. Bates finished the work at 12:30pm. Mr. Bates then presented me with the "bill" which he stated was "quiet a bit more" than his bid of $600.00, a total of $1,044.33. Mr. Bates charged me $172.50 for the permit. I asked him why that was not included as per our previous estimate conversation, he stated "he did not remember making that statement, 2 days prior" I paid Mr. Bates the full amount.
I suggest for future clients,
1. Have Mr. Bates supply you with a WRITTEN estimate.
2. Upon receiving the written estimate, hold him to that amount.
Finally, Mr. Bates stated to me that on a "good year, he makes 70K" WELL MR. BATES I HOPE I HELPED YOU MAKE THIS A GOOD YEAR!
