Macy's Clackamas Town Ctr

I think it went exceptionally well. We entered Macy's furniture area and salesman Michael Darby soon approached us. From a lifetime of experience I am wary of sales people; specifically, of what remarks they make regarding a product. So I was emotionally "on guard". What soon became apparent was that Michael was in no hurry and cheerfully answered all of our questions, encouraging us to take our time. I sensed no pressure or manipulative tactics whatsoever from Michael. He offered tips and comments on fabric, cleaning, color matching etc. that reflected the knowledge of someone experienced with furniture. After a long while we purchased two sofas, choosing one of two colors that were readily available for shipping to the store. Thinking about it overnight we returned to the store to look once again, unsure if the color would be right for us. Michael was there and listened to our concern. Then he did something unexpected and unusual: he excused himself and then returned with two throw pillows; one of each color. He placed each in a Macy's shopping bag and handed them to us saying, "Here, take these home, place them where the sofas will go and see which color works best, and bring them back when you're sure." He didn't ask for a deposit or even a signature. We did as he advised, and made our choice. I returned the pillows the same day, not wanting to abuse the rare trust from a rare salesman. Michael Darby sets the standard for a knowledgeable, helpful, resourceful--and honorable--salesman. He is a credit to Macy's.
