Paul came out and did the job, no trouble at all.  He went into the basement, I left him there for a while, and a few hours later, our old electric hot water heater was gone and the new gas heater was purring away in its new home.  He also did it for several hundred dollars less than anyone else offered to.  Nice job!

Paul & his crew were punctual, did good work, respectful and humorous. The quote was accurate, work was timely. At one point Paul found some issues with some old pipes that I hadn't seen, and he fixed them for his cost of materials. He was clear in his communications, and helpful with his suggestions.

After a year of high water bills and two visits from the plumber who installed the toilets in my new home, Paul Souza Plumbing found the problem ~ a piece of packing tape under the plunger of my new toilets, carelessly left by the installer and a small adjustment to the metal arm.

Two of my four toilets had been wasting water for a year in my "green" house! The only solution that was offered me was to replace the whole toilet! I wish I had called Paul Souza when I first noticed the problem. He responded quickly, and quickly solved an elusive and expensive problem for an hour of his time, and I will call him again! He is a real sleuth.

The valve was not fixed properly and he had to find special parts. He had to do some crepe work before he started the work. It almost took a month to find and fix it. It took time to remodel and to keep it in the style it was originally been built. He had to find special fixtures that could fit in my shower and he didn’t know that until he opened up the valve. It was a big process and it was not his fault. It was the process to do it right. He tried to do his best and did everything what he could do. He was very nice and I liked him a lot. He just charged me for the workmanship. It is little busy to get him because he is always busy with other jobs and people know that he is reasonable. He is very nice to talk to and he really work hard to get everything right. I would rate him high overall and would use him again in the future.

Our original problem was a broken gas furnace. In getting estimates for replacing it, it became clear that the water heater was very old and that its installation was not compliant with current codes. We chose Steven Conner of Comfort Connection to replace the furnace (see separate review) and Steven mentioned his brother in law, Paul, had a plumbing business and replaced water heaters. I contacted Paul and two companies that were highly rated by Angie's List customers. Of the three estimates I received for the job, Paul's was the least expensive and he was the only one to actually come to the house to look at it before providing an estimate. His price was also for a 50 gallon heater rather than the 40 gallon originally installed and included in the estimates from the other guys. A search with the Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB) showed that Paul's company was fairly new, but that he was licensed, insured, bonded and had no recorded complaints. In our case, since the furnace and water heater were both being replaced, and the existing exhaust vents were connected and needed to be rerouted, we decided to avoid potential contractor conflict and hire Paul, both on his own merits, and on his history of working well with Steven. Paul showed up on time the day of the installation and, with a helper, quickly removed the old water heater and installed the new one. The new heater looks good and works well. I'll certainly call Paul first if I have other plumbing needs.
