We experienced a sewage spill in our home. It was the weekend and my wife was home alone. She contacted Al's Carpet. She was presented a dense and confusing contract and was pressured into signing in order to begin work. The contract contained a small hidden clause establishing a minimum charge of more than $3000. We were billed $3202. The technician was there for less than 4 hours. The technician failed to remove plainly visible sewage from joists, crawlspace and insulation, failed to remove most of the contaminated wood and molding, failed to replace sewage-filled duct work, and rolled up and hid contaminated and sewage-filled vapor barrier in the crawlspace under our house. The work defined in the contract was not complete and was fraudulently handled. When we contested the bill and work, Al's would only consider sending a technician back which was unacceptable to us. Reasonable people don't re-employ fraudulent companies. We then offered to pay him $500 to resolve the matter. Al's declined and offered to "discount his charges" by aprx $175 (for a total of $3026.16) to cover "not replacing the vapor barrier". He followed that offer with, "we are too busy to talk to you. We'll get back to you when we can". In short, he took advantage of a distressed woman, failed to honor the terms of the contract, did not negotiate in good faith, performed unsatisfactory and fraudulent work (including hiding sewage-ridden visqueen under our house) and has remained unwilling to work with us to reasonably resolve the issue.

While there are still a few minor things to be done, overall I was very impressed with the professionalism of Al's (Nate in particular) and the subcontractors. The restoration involved moving a considerable amount of appliances and furniture, and all was replaced safely. I appreciated their handling the bulk of the insurance claim paperwork. While I indicated and quot;excellentand quot; on the price (above), I really have no way of knowing how it would compare with others, but my insurance company apparently agreed with their charges. I would definitely recommend them to others in need of similar services.

I had a bad experience with them. They destroyed the pipes. They did only bathroom reflooring and the kitchen. They destroyed my living and the dining room. I will never use them again in the future.
Response from Al's Carpet Cleaning & Restoration
"As per our signed contract with Member we removed flooring in part of the kitchen and bathroom to provide access for his plumber to repair drain plumbing. We don't perform plumbing since we are not licensed for that, his plumber did the work. Member picked out the floor covering and we installed it with trim. He asked us for a bid for cleaning the floors in the dining room and living room and I declined because the finish was worn through on the hardwood and I told him it needed to be sanded and refinished. He was insistent upon cleaning and was very unhappy that I declined to give a bid. If you try to clean bare wood with water you will raise the grain and possibly stain the wood. We did not do any work in those rooms. Due to job circumstances I took photographs before we started work and would be happy to share those with Member. I worked with his insurance company closely and they paid the bill in full with the exception of his deductible."

The carpet gets very dirty from kids, dogs and cats in and out. In addition we have clay soil that is sticky mud in winter, and dust that tracks in the summer. The young man who cleans our carpets always asks what the stains are from and does his best to remove them. He is extremely professional and courteous - and kind to the kids and critters.
