They are the best Vets around, I've used others and always come back to West Hills. They listen and provide options. They estimate charges. They are sensitive and supportive. They cost more, but are worth it.

We were very happy with our experience. The vet and vet tech we had were really great. I thought the prices were very reasonable. We chose this vet over others in the location because of their AHAA accreditation. We plan on sticking with them.

They are very pet friendly. They are very thorough. Sometimes I have to choose not to do everything that they recommended because it's too much. They send me email reminders about my pet health. They let me express my own opinions about things that my cat need or doesn't need. They are very animal oriented as a vet should be. They have several veterinarians available so that's always helpful. They are a little costly. Sometimes, I think they are expensive as veterinarians.

When I opted to have my pet treated aggressively with an expensive anti-fungal drug she and her staff made calls to compounding pharmacies throughout the region to get the best price. He is on the medication, is improving and doing well. I am cautiously optimistic about his recovery. It's difficult to find a veterinarian who is able to treat exotic animals, especially reptiles. Dr. Vickstrom is very professional and keeps up with the scientific literature. She obviously loves all kins of animals. I highly recommend her and her clinic.

Up until this year, we took our doggies to a clinic in Albany. As they aged, we became unhappy with the lack of communication and lack of empathy which was shown by the staff and vets there. In 2013, we decided to try West Hills Animal Hospital and have been happy with them. The staff at this vet hospital and Dr. Amsberry, the owner, provide excellent knowledge and are very empathetic to our family's needs and concerns. They treat our pets with utmost care and compassion. Dr. Amsberry's interest in growing his business is evident by concentrating on improving communication with his customers. The staff and veternarians call with updates during procedures. Dr. Amsberry is attentive and provides information about options during visits. He is proactive by using the telephone (what a concept!!) to call and inquire about our pets. There is a trade off, of course, for their careful attention and that reflects in the prices which are charged. Because our pets are seniors, we very, very much appreciate the kindness and consideration we and our pets receive from Dr. Amsberry and his excellent staff.

He overcharges. His fees are exorbitant. He wants to dictate what you should and shouldn't do with your animal which a doctor has a right but up to a point. He should also listen to me but they are not willing to listen to me and we live with our animals and who knows best about an animal and their behavior other than the owner. My daughter had a Siamese cat and took it there for a checkup and teeth cleaning and they charged her $500. She paid the exorbitant bill. I don't think they are great. I don't think they are honest with individuals. I don't think some of the practices are right. I would tell others not to go there and find a new one that will take care of you personally and your animal's needs. His prices are very high compared to other vets. The quality is good. I had a cat for 19 years and I wanted them to put him to sleep but they wanted to give him a shot under the skin to hydrate her and they don't listen to us. The punctuality is good.
Response from West Hills Animal Hospital
"We apologize that your experiences with our hospital were negative. We pride ourselves on our patient advocacy and compassion for animals. In regards to euthanizing your cat, we are sorry for your loss and understand that it is a very emotional process. As animal advocates, we feel that it is our responsibility to provide owners with all available options to allow them to make the best informed decision for their given situation. For your scenario, we offered diagnostic testing and treatment at no cost through our Guardian Angel fund, surrender and adoption through our hospital, and euthanasia. We are sorry you felt these options were being dictated and that you were not being heard. In regards to cost, we always offer an estimate of the available options and prices beforehand and never proceed with testing or treatments without approval. Again, our goal is to provide education and a variety of choices to allow owners to make their own decision. Thank you for your feedback; we are always open to ways our hospital can grow and improve. We wish you the best in the future."

They have multiple staff members. I have been happy with two of the vets I have seen, but I was less happy with Dr. Moore. Our regular vet is very good. She has very good rapport with the animals and clients. She has a good way about her, and I'm happy with her.

When I called I was given an appointment within the hour, we were seen as soon as we arrived, his medical exam was thorough and when the decision was made to keep him there for the day I was given frequent updates on his condition as well as several follow-up calls after he came home. He's just fine now.
Response from West Hills Animal Hospital
"We are also glad he is doing well. You were prudent to catch his symptoms and get him in early. Hope you are having a great summer. Steve Amsberry DVM"

Staff always professional and friendly.Always felt too much pressure to "do more" tests, dental work, x-rays, etc.
Response from West Hills Animal Hospital
"Thank you for your constructive, honest feedback. We struggle trying to balance our focus on patient advocacy, new technology costs, staff training and the financial situations our pet owners are in. With Winnie's Addison's disease there are indeed ongoing costs to try to monitor/treat properly. I wish we had the open honest conversation regarding fees before you left, but please know if you choose to return we will enter the relationship with all the "cards on the table". Our intention is to never have a client feel like they are not "doing enough" for their pets. We also feel it is important that you know what is best for your pets, the fees associated with that care and the freedom to choose the level of care that works for you. We are using some more creative ways now in this economy to break costs up in payments to help pet owners. The door is always open for your return and we are happy to offer any free phone advice at any time. Best regards, Steve Amsberry DVM 541-758-4509"

Everyone is welcoming and informed, patient with the patients :-) and willing to take the time you need to discuss behavior issues (great suggestions, by the way!), get more information about any of the procedures or suggested courses of action, or get community referrals for outside services. My young children have come along to appointments and not only is the office equipped with toys for kids, but the doctors and other staff members talk to them about their dog and answer questions. I love this vet! The assistants make notes, the communication between assistant and doctor must be very efficient behind the scenes because it feels seamless, and the record keeping is so thorough that every appointment feels like a natural extension of the previous meeting. I don't feel pushed into medication that seems frivolous, and they do not push the brands of food, treats, and medication that are on display in the office. I feel that my questions are taken with great respect and attention even though they may answer the same question many times a day. My dog's records were readily available for the boarding service, and their receipts and record of service are combined for less paperwork for me to keep track of. On one piece of paper following an appointment, I have a summary of what was done, an itemized list with costs associated, a brief vaccination record, a record of which doctor I saw, and a next appointment recorded. Love it!

"Thank you for taking the time to complete this report on Angie's list. Newton has grown up and we look forward to seeing you and him as an "adult" We hope every future visit you feel like you get "comprehensive care" for him and you. We love what we do and really try to provide the Norman Rockwell/high tech combination in companion pet care. As you know--our practice grows because of "word of mouth". Thank you for being part of that process. See you soon, West Hills Team 541-758-4509"

I have decided he is way too expensive and so I am going to have to find a new vet. He demands perfection. He wants teeth cleanings done, check ups every 6 months and it s too much and too expensive, too demanding. Everyone here is nice though and he is a good vet.
Response from West Hills Animal Hospital
"Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on Angie's List. Apparently you did not feel like you had a comfortable option to decline wellness services we recommended. This means we failed in our communication to let you know what the best preventative care entails and allow you to comfortably indicate to us if that was the level of care you desired. Maybe I was remembering how you were willing to let me do the emergency surgery on Marcello when he ruptured his bladder and we removed half of it to save him. We miss all of you and if you choose to return the door is wide open. I am unable to control our fees greatly as I have made commitments to provide full benefits and nearly livable wages to our employees, invest in new technologies, invest in extensive continuing education etc. We have become more creative in payment plans as we help pet owners provide the best they can during these difficult economic times. Take care, Steve Amsberry DVM 541-758-4509"
