He did not clean up after himself, when drilling holes in my cabinets, and he drilled from the inside out, resulting in a large chip to the new cabinet outer face. He also installed the water line for the refrigerator at a location that interfered with the drawer closing. I had to clean up his mess, and rig a fix for the water line that kept the bottom drawer from closing. While he had been recommended by my neighbors, I would not hire him again.

First, let me explain why we hired Tom. (He's a one-man show; when you hire Thomas Bombadil Plumbing, you're hiring Tom.) Of course, there were the excellent reviews he got on Angie's List. But even before reading those, we were inclined to go with Tom because several years ago we had an urgent plumbing problem and called him on the recommendation of a friend; we didn't know Tom at the time. He could easily have charged us a wad of money to come over quickly and fix the problem, but instead he listened to our description of the issue and then told us over the phone how we could easily fix it ourselves, which we did.
So later when we needed extensive plumbing done, we asked Tom to do it, and he turned out to be just as friendly, competent, hard-working, and trustworthy as we'd thought he would be. He also was flexible. We were installing a heat pump water heater and needed it done on a tight deadline to qualify for a rebate (these new-style water heaters are great energy-savers) and Tom worked with us to make sure the water heater was installed on time. He even agreed to take a required webinar on how to properly install a heat pump water heater in order to enable us to collect the substantial rebate.
Note that the cost of service listed above ($5,400) includes all the materials Tom used, notably the water heater, which ran nearly $2,000. (Heat pump water heaters are expensive upfront, but they save you hundreds of dollars a year and there are both rebates and tax credits available most places--after our rebates and tax credits we will have paid less than what a regular, energy-hogging electric water heater would have cost.) Tom's labor alone--he was wrestling with our pipes for nearly three days--was equal to or less expensive than other plumbers in our area.

Thomas Bombadil showed up as promised, did and excellent job,in a professional manner, at a reasonable price. I would have him plumb another house. He did both the rough plumbing and the finish work.

I called Tom; he picked right up and we scheduled an appointment for the next day. He called in advance because I was going to be out and about, and when I got home he was waiting. On the way into the house, he reminded me to unfasten my garden hose -- free plumbing advice! He fixed the two problems quickly and advised me how to keep my drain free of clogs. Tom is professional, super-competent and efficient.

Wonderful. All work got done, with Tom helping the contractor on some of the lifting ... very easy having the work done, all complete in just a couple hours.

This project went extremely well. Tom came exactly when he said he would, finished earlier than estimated and billed less than he had anticipated.
