It started with my desire to get the rest of the wiring replaced in my 60-year old house; some of the wiring had been replaced when I bought the house 9 years earlier. Then the question became did I want the living room ceiling raised since that room had a 7 foot ceiling and was dark because the two windows were at the end of a rectangular room. I said "yes" and the project grew from there. I had found out about Mr. Earl by word of mouth when looking for someone to install a bathroom sink when a previous plumber had said it could not be done. Mr. Earl solved the problem and did such a beautiful job I knew I wanted him to do any further work on my house. He would make good suggestions and I had developed ideas about what I wanted the house to look like. What emerged was a combination of his ideas (e.g., creating an attic space) and my ideas (e.g., beams in the living room). He listened and was very nice to work with. One nice feature is that I lived in the house while all this was going on; I am not a morning person, so Mr. Earl did not start work before noon.
Mr. Earl is a perfectionist which has two consequences - the project was over budget and took longer than estimated. That might really bother some people; it did not bother me. At the time, I had the money and I wanted the work to be done right so I would not have expensive maintenance bills later on in my retirement. Five years into my retirement, I have had no expenses related to this work and nothing has ceased to work. Second, older houses present surprises and so that will drive up the cost and lengthen the time.
Mr. Earl worked over twenty years in California, specializing in kitchens and bathrooms. Consequently, he applies his perfectionist tendencies to electricity, plumbing, surfaces (e.g., plaster-like finishes), carpentry, and structural changes (skylights, doors, windows, and, in my case raising a ceiling). He is very familiar with the building codes of Corvallis, Oregon where my house is located.
I could not be happier with his work and have strongly recommended him to a number of other people.

He is a perfectionist. His work is phenomenal. It takes him awhile to finish his work and his price is a little higher but the quality of his work is amazing.
