We had a bad experience with the big home improvement store in town, we are not local so it was hard to find a reputable carpet place in town. We are glad we found Corvallis floor covering. We were able to do most of it over the phone and they were very accommodating. They did what they said with no nickel and diming you.
"The customer was not charged for the premium pad that was installed as this was a store error. The store was never contacted about the "tacks" at the seams of the carpet, so did not have an opportunity to correct the situation. We would have done so immediately if we had known there was a problem."
From the start, I was able to get clear information about options that were particular to my parents. The job ws done on time, for the price that was quoted. I was able to coordinate this from this from Portland and just had to pay the bill, that I think was extremely fair.
I would highly recommend them to be used especially for people who may be coordinating from afar and it's for older adults.
We were not disappointed. It wasn't a big job and was completed in two days - the installer had to come back the next day to let the grout dry before he could finish it all off/seal it.
We will definitely come back to Corvallis Flooring again for future needs. We feel they have a good selection of product, are well respected within the industry and can provide full installation of anything they sell, with reliable sub-contractors.
- Wendy, the owner and a designer who had helped with a major house redo in 2008 had excellent suggestions for the floor. In fact, the work with them then was close to perfect.
The floor had been scheduled to be installed in early September, but somehow the material was not ordered, pushing back the dates to the 2nd week of October.
I was given multiple numbers of days it would take, from 2 or 3 to 5 (by the contractor, who did overestimate).
As the vinyl floor was being removed, it became clear that the floor under it was loose in some places (I don't know if they could have been found earlier), and decisions had to be made: to send a piece of the floor across the country for testing, and then, if necessary, have the asbestos cleaned up, delaying the project at least several weeks. The other option, which I chose, was to install 5-ply wood over the entire floor, sealing the asbestos in (very labor intensive). This took extra time and money; I was promised an invoice with the new price to arrive that day but had to remind the store at the end of the week.
The Marmoleum was installed with few problems, though the entire job took 4 days—with the contractor staying until after 7 p.m. to finish up and move back the furniture.
I requested a discount for the first unclear and then longer time involved and for the extra cost (about $500) of the plywood. I was offered 5% off, approximately equal to $200 (on a now nearly $4000.00 job and with multiple thousands spent with them 7 years before). I requested 10% off (resisting the option to ask for the entire wood and its installation to be written off). I was told that needed to be discussed with the owner, Wendy, and that someone would get back to me the next day. I heard nothing. I called and got no response to my message. I went into the store about 10 days later and learned that it had been discussed the night of my request before Wendy went out of town (I don't know if this is true). Wendy was very short with me, gave me little time to explain my reasoning, and said to just pay what I wanted, so I did.
Further, when the wood underfloor was installed, it made a pantry door too short and unable to be put back. I told Wendy about it and asked that that be addressed. I heard nothing from them (and she does know the contractor who did the major work in '08). I sent an email to an employee (not having one for Wendy) before I went away in November. I heard nothing from them and haven't since.
The installation of the floor seems excellent (so far).
Professionals at the store itself were friendly, low-key, and helpful.
