A-1 AUTO GLASS

I made an appointment for a front window replacement, dropped off vehicle and rode my bicycle around town waiting for a call to pick it up. At about the time they said it would be done I got a call telling me the extra dark window that I had them order in when I made the appointment a week before was defective and that if I wanted my truck back that day I would have to settle for a different window. Well living in Albany and not wanting to ride my bike back home I hade no alternative but to go with what they had. I had removed all the interior trim around the window and mirror before I brought the truck in.When the store manager asked me why, I told him it was so they would not have to worry about scratching anything. His reply to me was they would be extra careful and they were used to "overly paranoid people" like me. I did not bother telling him I was a master diagnostic technician for Toyota and that, not only did I have more experience working on cars than every person at his shop combined, but I know how big of a hurry people get in working flat rate where the more cars they slam through the more money they make and it was obvious that was how their shop was set up. I drove the truck home and put it back in the garage. At this point I will tell you that this vehicle is always kept in the garage, only driven on weekends, and as of this writing has 8700 miles and is an 2009. A week later I pull the truck out of the garage to get ready for a trip to the coast. I decided to wash it because it was a little dusty. As I am washing I find a large scratch in the front bumper. I know it was not there before the window job because I had washed it right before going and drove it straight to their parking lot. I called A1 glass to see what we could do to fix the problem. When I talked to the store manager he immediately denied the scratch happened in the shop and again brought up the fact that I had removed the trim and called me "overly paranoid" and "too picky". Because I didn't notice the scratch until after I left the shop there was no way to get them to admit they caused the damage and I was left to pay the $100 for the part and fix it myself. Not only was I extremely disappointed that they wouldn't take any responsibility but I was even more angry about the way I was treated by the manager. As a consumer I should not be called too picky because I expect my vehicle to be returned to me in the same, or better, condition as when I brought it to them. Being in the automotive business in this area for 30 years I have many contacts and make it a point to share my story so they will not have the opportunity to treat someone else the way I was treated.
