Auto Sales
rWe went into Gib's to look at used Class C RV's and trade in our 4 year old trailer. They had two on the lot and we were interested in the smaller one. The salesman led us to believe it had not been on the lot very long and wouldn't last. We inquired about the trade in value of our trailer and were told by the manager the best they could do was $10,000 (on a unit we paid $23,000 for new). We went home to think about it and I did a little research, looking for similar RV's around the state and indeed, I did not find much so we went back and struck a deal as we were afraid if we didn't we would lose it. With the trade-in, our price was $4995 to them, but it has cost us much more. They certify they will make sure everything is working. Well, when they say that, they are only talking about the RV, not the engine or mechanics of the vehicle the RV is sitting on.
We took the vehicle to a mechanic to get the oil changed the week after we got it. He told us the water pump was shot and it needed new ball joints, upper and lower. We also found out the lights were not working right. We went back to Gib's and they said they would need their mechanic to look at it and when this sort of thing happened, they usually paid half. We were unsure if we would be further taken for a ride so we took it to several other mechanics for estimates. That in itself is another story as no two agreed on what was wrong and the estimates were all over the place. You really have to wonder who you can trust within the automotive field.
Gib's mechanic (an offsite garage in town) gave the lowest estimate and we felt compelled to get the work done there so we wouldn't have to pay for the whole thing. In the meantime, we paid $148 to get the lights fixed, $133 for the initial oil change because Gib's has no way to do it, $537 for our half of the repairs and another $105 for a front end alignment after the repair.
During the time this was all going on, I found out they had the RV on their lot since February - it hadn't "just come in". Then last night I saw our trailer was out for sale and stopped to see what they were asking for it - $19,995. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. They insisted they couldn't give us more than $10,000 on trade because they have new units for $14,000. And now they have our trailer up there for almost what we originally paid for it. We feel totally raped by this outfit and would never do business with them again.
PS. The oven won't stay at the temperature you set it for, the screen door won't shut on its own which means you have to keep the main door shut, the fuel gauge doesn't work right and the mileage they told us we would get was a lie.
