These folks are fantastic. They built our home in 2007, our garage in 2009, added a porch in 2010, installed a patio an 2011 and added a front patio/entry in 2012. They understand quality and deliver it. They listen to what you say you want, make suggestions for improvements and deliver more than you dreamed. Ask them for names of prior clients and they will all tell you the same thing... You are making a mistake if you don't let McLennan Contractors work for you!

We were present for the beginning of the excavation in early July 2009. Jim McLennan was present and seemed engaged. August 12, 2009, Patty McLennan emailed a tentative schedule for the roof and windows to be installed by October 25, 2009. We returned in September to find the project considerably over budget and behind schedule. We called a meeting with McLennans to discuss the overbudget amounts. McLennan said it was due to the foundation but assured us that the rest of the project would be at the budgeted amounts. We came to Brookings in early November and found the same problems--too much money spent for the progress made. The budget was out of control. Again, we were told it would be brought under control.
In December, we again came to town and finding the same problems, asked to part company. The McLennans then changed our agreement to McLennan supplying the labor at a fixed budget amount for each category, such as window installation, siding, exterior trim, interior trim and detail, to name a few. As we did not live here to look for someone else, we agreed. We consulted a Seattle contractor who said if McLennan would perform the tasks at their proposed rate, it should be fine.
The home is on the waterfront of the Oregon coast. We investigated and then supplied an expensive house wrap made in Scotland, expensive windows, and cedar siding to ensure that we would have water-tight home. McLennan workers did not properly install the materials. The windows leaked as soon as the rain started. Instead of backing up when the leaks were evident and properly reinstalling the materials, he proceeded to put on the siding and window trim. The leaks persisted. His answer was to use great "gobs" of caulk to cover up the leaking. To see the leaking after providing costly materials was the final straw for us! At this point when the still-leaking windows were shown to Jim McLennan, McLennan walked off the job.
McLennan, in our opinion, had no interest in cost control or quality control and no interest in managing his employees. He seemed only interested in sending bills.
We ended up in arbitration with McLennan. McLennan's work was found to be defective in five areas of construction. Our dream home ended up being a nightmare. We had to finish ourselves and worry with each rain that rot is setting in from the defective workmanship.
