Schopp's Home Maintenance

We had a great experience working with Schopp's Home Maintenance. Their office team was very responsive, and took the time to understand all of my concerns and address all of my questions. Likewise, the guys who came to do the job were punctual, courteous, professional, and they seemed genuinely interested in doing a great job and ensuring our satisfaction with the quality of the work. They were extremely thorough, and clearly have many years of expertise. would highly recommend - and we will consider Schopp's first for future work needed here.

Schopps did a fabulous job on both projects. They were responsive, thorough, organized and professional. I appreciate that they were able to complete the projects relatively soon after booking.

We have had a couple of bad experiences with deck refinishers, so I put some extra effort into the selection process for this project. We chose Schopp's Home Maintenance, and we are very glad we did. Schopp's is a well-run, professional company and clearly strives to do the right thing. They are a little aggressive in their requested payment chronology, but it was easy to resolve. They were also excellent to work with us regarding our requested schedule, and always showed up when they said they would. While they were not the cheapest, we felt they were fair and provided great service. The owner hires good people and it is clear they communicate well. We have two 19 yr old cedar decks which were last re-finished in 2011. As you would expect, they looked pretty dark. When the Schopp's techs completed the cleaning/stripping/light sanding phase, they looked brand new! We were amazed at the transformation. When they began to apply the stain, we were surprised at how different the color of our chosen stain looked on our wood. It was VERY different from the sample board from which we chose our color. Luckily, I was home and was able to work with them to select a different stain that did look like the sample board. The Schopp's techs were great and didn't seem to mind re-doing a small section that they had already completed...we were very grateful! It is a very good idea to ensure the color you really want looks like you expect before getting too far along. The finished decks look absolutely amazing! They did take a bit of house paint off with the pressure washer, but they were able to fix the spots with some leftover paint I still had on hand. We did have a bit of a hiccup with the "board replacement" phase of the project. One board was not replaced satisfactorily, but Schopp's was excellent to return and fix the problem. They clearly stand behind their work and are very reasonable to resolve any reasonable issues. Our decks look brand new again, and we are very impressed and appreciative of the excellent work that they did. We grade Schopp's an A-, and only took off a little because of a tiny bit of stain that was left on the house paint. Overall Schopp's did a great job, from techs, to office, to the owner. We reccomend them, and will call Schopp's the next time we need home maintenance work done!

In a word: Wonderful. It took me a long time to find a company like Schopp's Home Maintenance, and I'm so glad I did. I've had bi-weekly housecleaning services from Schopp's for about the past 9 months, and I've had a single seasonal window washing so far. I've been just delighted with both services. For the housecleaning, I appreciate the responsive and careful service provided in every room of my home. The person who has been assigned to my home is just a gem, and I look forward to seeing her on each of my service days. For the the window washing, the job was very well done and the workers were both professional and nice to have around. I plan to call them again soon to schedule this season's window washing. I expect to work with Schopp's Home Maintenance for the foreseeable future, and this review is a great opportunity for me to say thanks again to everyone there.

Decided to use them again.   Came out 05/20/16.  One man.  Worked very hard washing and putting finish on deck which finally dried very uneven in colors.  Owner/Manager Paul came out  to check and said it would be corrected.  That was early June.  Finally rescheduled for redo for today.  Shannon, the scheduler, called to " delay until maybe 2 days from now due to rain".   We saw no rain but I called Shannon about 2PM to see how the reschedule is going...   The phone is now disconnected.  Miserable sloppy scheduling work.  Very non-professional.
  IPE is a very hard Brazilian wood and makes a lovely strong deck    I don't remember who recommended Schopp"s to me but I expected  them to perfect  the redo process so we wouldn't have problems this summer.

Very prompt and professional with the estimate and installation.
Customer service is excellent.

Original cost involves actual lights and install. You store your lights and each year they come out and reinstall. Much less $ after first year. We moved recently so they are working with existing lights purchased to make it work with our new roofline and adding extra lights on landscaping. Very helpful and flexible.

We have a multiple story home with high windows. The guys were careful and did a great job.

Schopp's finished the job yesterday (July 30, 2015), and I have to say...it looks even better than I had hoped!  The work crew did a fantastic job with every aspect of the work, which included 1.) Tearing out the old stairs and upper & lower decks, 2.) Rebuilding the same, including replacing a large support beam, 3.) Staining all the wood, 4.) Painting where needed, 5.) Replacing the stepping stones and wood leading up the driveway to the stairs, 6.) Installing a new gutter around the upper deck to ensure proper water drainage, and 7.) Sanding and refinishing the entire back deck.  It was a lot of work, and it took about two weeks for total completion.
Upon hiring Schopp's, the owner (Paul) came out to provide an estimate.  He was very detailed and pleasant to work with, and explained everything in terms I would understand.  I could quickly tell he knew what he was doing.  At various points he also gave me options on the work: I could use a less-expensive method of construction or materials, or more expensive.  He was good at pointing out the pros and cons of each, and didn't pressure me at all to choose the more expensive options.  He seemed to understand that different people are working with different budgets, and his recommendations allowed for both.  Oh, Paul was also very good about explaining the required Oregon legal paperwork associated with jobs over a certain dollar threshold.  As a legal professional myself, I appreciate the fact that Paul handles his business "by the book".  (Many other contractors don't.)  Overall his professionalism was outstanding.
I should also mention...I tried to get bids from two other contractors as well, but Schopp's was the first to respond.  Those other two contractors finally got back to me only after I had already hired Schopp's, and a full week after the work had already started!  Reminds me of the phrase "You snooze, you lose."  The bids I finally got from those other contractors were less expensive, but honestly, after seeing the completed work I'm now GLAD those other contractors were slow to respond.  I might have hired one of them otherwise, and I doubt they would have done as good of a job as Schopp's did.
I can recommend Schopp's Home Maintenance without reservation, and will certainly use them again in the future. 

This is the 3rd time we've engaged Schopp's Home Maintenance in the past year.  1st was complete deck power wash and stain; 2nd was full house window wash; 3rd was interior painting and fan installation.
Each job was done in a timely (punctual) and professional manner by well-trained, polite and efficient staff.  Complete satisfaction was the result.

This review involves 3 service providers that I called for my deck refurbishing (cleaning, sanding, & restain).   More details below, but the bottom line is that I had the best luck with the category of home maintenance (rather than deck maintenance), such as Schopp?s Home Maintenance.  They were responsive, fairly prompt to get the work done, and did a nice job.  It?s a large deck, with main section over 60 feet long, and there is also an adjacent side deck where the hot tub sits. 

Portland Deck Refinishing called me and said they were coming out to give a bid.  They never followed up with the bid or a call back.

Deck Renovations was nice enough to come out, but told me my deck was in bad condition and needed a lot of work done.  They estimated over $4500 for my side deck, and roughly estimated about $20,000 for the main deck.

So overall, I was happy with Schopp?s Home Maintenance.  We plan to use them again in the future.   Would suggest that you ask ahead about returning the furniture after the deck staining is done.  Also, they would like to put another coat on the deck each year, for a lesser charge.  I will have to think about that.

 

Schopp's was responsive in getting back to me for the initial estimate, timely in arranging the estimate, flexible in scheduling the work.  The work itself was well done, professional onsite, and very reasonable cost-wise.

I have used Schopp's Home Maintenance for several years. I am always pleased with the quality of the work done as well as the professionalism of the workers. A rotted board was found on the deck, and the workers replaced it. The business is run very efficiently, and the workers are very competent. I would highly recommend this company.

I have a clear plastic patio roof with a very shallow pitch, so it collects dirt and debris which the rain is unable to clear.  Schopp's two men used a ladder, hose, and long pole with a soft brush to gently clean my 12' x 12' patio cover.  Wow! Bright sunlight is again visible.  Afterwards, they wiped down windows and sills that had drips on them.
Excellent work, I plan to call them again in the next year or two.
