Two weeks before the end of April (the expiration of the buyers' tax credit), our landlord announced that he would be putting our rental residence on the market. Rather than move into another rental, my husband and I decided to try to buy our first house within 2 weeks, before the credit expired. This was not an easy task, especially with a 5 week old baby and 3 year old in tow. I walked into Joann's office with a minimal knowledge of what the whole process entailed. She spent more than an hour patiently explaining to me the processes of purchasing a home and obtaining a loan, with crystal clarity. She listened carefully to what we wanted, and meticulously scanned the MLS for houses in our price range that fit our criteria. During our house tours, Joann provided candid feedback upon request about each house, pointing out interesting features and potential issues. After helping us find the house that best suited our needs, she worked tirelessly (including nights and on the weekend) to assemble the offer and start escrow so that we could meet our deadline. Which we did- 4 days ahead of schedule!! Joann went above and beyond her basic job description, and made an otherwise stressful and frustrating experience personal and positive. And she knows her stuff. I'm sure that there are a ton of agents out there who do good work (there's not a small number of agents on this list), but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone else who will better see you as an individual instead of just a commission.
