BEWARE: We hired this company to do some trimming and tree care for several trees on our property because of their competitive bid and decent reviews available online. At the time of the service, we had some concerns about their work on several curly willow trees, but we were assured that they were fine. A few weeks after the service, we had the top fall off one of the trees on a sunny, windless day in the early summer (almost hitting a guest on our deck). I called twice with concern about the tree, but never heard back. In later summer, another tree they worked on had its top break off and get hung up on the lower branches. I called again, and this time they came out and gave me a quote of $1500 to fix the two trees. Finally, one of the curly willows that we were concerned about fell over (this was our concern – it was trimmed in an unbalanced manner). This occurred after winter rains, but before the snow/ice accumulation. I can accept one of these incidents as coincidental, but not three. I don’t have confidence in the ability of this company to perform effective trimming work.

I was very impressed with J & F, and will definitely be calling them for future jobs. I called one morning and asked for someone to come by to give us a quote to remove a 20 foot plus tree in our front yard. To expedite things, I told the receptionist that they could come by anytime (even if we're not home), and to call me with the quote afterwards. I was pleasantly surprised when Dan swung by that same afternoon. I happened to be home at the time, and he was able to address some concerns I had, and gave me a reasonable quote. This was late fall and we had some strong winds, so I was hoping to remove the tree sooner than later. Dan said they were scheduled out a couple weeks, but said if I was flexible on the day/time the job could be done, that his crews might be able to do it earlier. It was around Thanksgiving, so I didn't expect much. I don't think it was even two days after that conversation when I came home from work and the tree was removed. They left the area very nice and tidy. What I was extremely impressed about was, our lawn maintenance guy had raked all our leaves onto the side of our street because our recycle bin was full. I didn't ask Dan to clean up that mess, but his crew swept up all the leaves and took it with them. Class act. They were super responsive, and did a quality job. Dan was great to work with. I highly recommend.

The entire process went smoothly...from getting an estimate with 10% Angie’s List Discount (Bob), to scheduling, to arrival, to pruning, to clean up. Their experienced Employees deserve kudos for their excellent skills at trimming and cutting. Our mature Trees looked (and continue to look) wonderfully shaped and healthy after they finished the agreed upon pruning. We waited quite awhile to write a review (2.5 years), because we wanted to be thorough about how our Trees faired over the long haul. In the end, that’s what really matters when significant pruning is involved. Sometimes, with various Arborist Businesses, when it comes to the pruning of Trees (especially larger ones) they may look fine for awhile, but not react well over the Seasons and Weather changes, if the pruning is not done with care. Bear in mind, some Businesses are overly paranoid and don’t/won’t trim a reasonable amount, which rarely looks good; and still others go wild and trim too much, which can weaken or even kill your Tree(s). Attention to detail when trimming, truly matters; not just for cosmetic purposes, but for the lasting health of the Tree(s). We are very grateful we chose J & S Tree Service. Those in charge, as well as the Crew, actually cared and listened to us, and gladly accommodated our pruning wishes. They weren’t offended or put off when we asked questions, or watched them while they did the trimming. They know/knew what they were doing, and did everything very professionally, and in a timely manner. We also requested for them to set aside any of the Tree Limbs that were of a certain size, and cut them up for future Fire Wood, rather than just sending them all through their Industrial Shredder. This task can add to the time and total Price, but it is worth, if you have a use for good Fire Wood.

It went great. They came when they said they would, ground the stump and left. We have used them in the past for other tree work. The folks who show up to work are friendly and professional and their office staff is easy to work with as well.

Both tree trimming/thinning went well. Thinning went as expected, the tree looks a lot cleaner. As for the pear tree, it is a much more manageable size, and I feel J&F did a better job preserving the tree than had I waited for PGE to come through and clear the power lines. Minimal fruit this year, but that was expected. Also, J&F was careful not to damage our lawn - it had been a very wet winter and the lawn was very muddy. They brought in plywood to cover the work area around the tree, this definitely minimized damage to the lawn. They also cleared all debris from the worksite.

I do recommend working with Bob when you call. He has done several bids and been the project coordinator for our work. He is straight to the point, courteous and meets deadlines. Each time the work was done as expected (they also have done other stump removal and debris removal for me in the past). The team worked fast. They did provide an Angies List discount on the last job, which is appreciated. I would hire them again.

Bob came out the day I called (everyone else wanted to schedule me for an appraisal a week out) and was able to give me a bid that worked for my insurance company, explain what needed to be done and how they would accomplish it. They then were able to schedule me to do the work within four days. They then arrived when they said they would, with the appropriate size work crew, and completed a job that would have taken me and my friends several days, a couple of bad backs, and a lot of aleve, in 5 hours. They were very careful to clean up after themselves, and even blew the leaves from my front walk and driveway as a little surprise extra touch.

Bob was friendly and knowledgable during a walkthrough of my property where we identified the work that needed to be done. He provided welcome advice, and we easily agreed to a statement of work. Bob and his crew arrived and got right to work.And in a matter of 1 hour a 2' diameter tree was reduced to a pile of stump grindings.The best thing about their job was that when they left the clean up job was so good,not a leaf was to be found.(and I'm not exaggerating!)The equipment was all top notch and the guys were very efficient and knowledgeable.I won't give these guys a 5 star rating.Going to have to give them a 6!!!! Bob gave us a prompt and complete bid for the work. He worked their schedule around our schedule which happened to be fairly tight. On the agreed date they showed up on time with six workers including two climbers and four ground crew. They were very professional, disciplined and worked as a well trained team. All of the work was performed in about 4 hours.
They were very careful to avoid any damage to our garden and a lawn structure that were in the 'drop zone' for the Oak tree work. They cleaned up the entire area and left it in better condition than when they arrived. Bob reviewed the entire job with us before they left to make sure that we were satisfied.
I will definitely call on them again when we need any tree work done and have recommended C&F Tree Service to two of my neighbors.

I live out of state and my mother lives in my home in Hillsboro. I contacted J & F Tree Service and within the week I had a quote and the work was done. I could not be happier from start to finish. Bob Plympton and his crew were awesome. While they were working neighbors were so impressed with the job they were doing that they hired them to do their yards on the spot. Bob met with everyone surrounding the house to explain to them what they would be doing. I cannot say enough as to their professionalism, knowledge, clear communication and follow-up. I would recommend this company in a heartbeat.

I noticed the first alder (the one that was wedged against a Douglas fir) on Monday, December 21rst, in the morning. With all the rain that we have had and with the wind, I was nervous it was going to fall over. I found J and F on Angie's list and they had good reviews, so I gave them a call. Christy was so nice and said someone would come over and take a look. They were really busy, given the recent weather. John came and a closer look revealed the fir tree was the only thing holding the alder up so we agreed on $950 and a short time later the crew arrived. They worked quickly and efficiently and left the place clean. The price included hauling away all of the tree.
I was worried about the second tree but I thought it would hang in there until after the holidays. WRONG! At 10:15 this morning, the tree came down, it fell onto the house, and punctured two holes in the roof.
I called J and F again and they came over within an hour and John called an off duty crew (I am sorry for them.) to come out and
remove the the second tree. Once again it was done quickly and efficiently and all the debris was hauled away. John also called a friend in the roofing business and he is coming over to give me an estimate and to put a tarp on the roof. The second tree, which was much bigger was $1400.
I don't know if the prices are competitive, but if you live in Portland and know what our December has been like, you will know how
grateful I am to have someone respond so quickly when I called. I was so glad they were able to take care of it for me.

Beautiful work. It took a few weeks to get on the schedule, but fall is a busy time of year, so I didn't mind. Dan came to our house and spent at least 30 minutes taking details notes and carefully inspecting all the trees. He was very thorough. I would definitely use J&F in the future.
