After I had waited for 45 minutes, the tech looking at my machine hooked up a gauge and declared that it was the mother board that was bad. AND, since it was a Dell desktop machine (one of the most popular makes of computers, by the way) they couldn't get a replacement.
Their ineptitude was actually a blessing in disguise, because it forced me to take my computer to someone that knew what they were doing (Tekology). An hour after dropping my machine off with Tekology (and $180 later), my computer was home and purring (it WAS the power supply!)
Learned my lesson (almost the hard way!).
