We insisted that they return and fix the problems with the paint, which they did no less than four times. Many of those return visits created more problems than they fixed. For example, despite the particular brand of paint specified in the quote, they purchased a different brand for touch-ups which did not match the sheen of the trim color, and it was splotchy and sloppy. They had to retouch their touch-ups! They eventually had to repaint the south wall of the house to hide the mistakes from the first pass and the sloppy touch-ups. They did fix all the problems we pointed out.
They left trash, like tape balls, water bottles and used paint rollers in our yard and I had to pull aside the employees to ask them to clean up the trash that we hadn't already picket up. On the fourth visit they confessed that their sprayer had been broken the first pass, leaving me with no confidence in the quality of the coverage.
The paint job took the more than a month to complete, despite the estimated time of a week to ten days.
Over all, although all the painters and employees were polite, overall, I would not recommend Custom Painting Solutions for exterior paint. It was painful and discouraging. We purchased top quality paint and paid a premium for them to paint the difficult areas, but the overall quality of the work was poor -- until we insisted that they correct these. Felt like babysitting.
"I'm sorry we were unable to satisfy your needs. There was some paint slopped, quite a few touch ups, and then of course the stepping on the green house roof, which I paid for. I am still somewhat baffled by the F rating, however. The house looks great now that it is finally done. We had multiple people stop by and ask for business cards. I even have a before and after of the house on our company facebook page. Ultimately, we did everything stated in the contract, and I personally came out and re-sprayed some areas. The house looks great, and with the quality paint we used (Miller Evolution), the paint should last for years and years before it needs to be redone. Again, I apologize for the headache that this job turned into. I hope your review does not detract too many customers from using my company. We pride ourselves in doing the job right, and I believe the employees I had during this job lack professionalism- I have since replaced two painters who were not living up to the standard of quality I demand from my painters. I have also added and RMI to my business- a certified manager who can be on site at all times in order to monitor quality. I also wish I could have been on the job more. I also do epoxy flooring, and those jobs require me to be present 100 percent of the time- and I was up to my eyeballs with flooring jobs. Middle of summer is hands down the busiest time of year and I made the mistake of trying to do to many jobs at once. You will find that in many painting companies, the owner is not on site for very much time- simply stopping by a few times a day to check in, as I did. I would still like you to reconsider the F rating. In the end, you now have a fully repainted craftsman home with a custom paint scheme with high quality products. Your house looks outstanding. I didn't charge any additional money for the extra work. I would like to know what other people would rate this house if they stopped by and looked at it. I seriously doubt anybody would give it an F rating."
