The planning by Kathryn Renz Designs was phenomenal and contributed significantly to the overall success of the projects. Her CAD work is excellent , almost like photographs, with five different views of all the counters, cabinets, eating area, etc. We knew exactly what we were getting before they started.
Everyone was very easy to communicate with, responding to me by phone or text within a few hours when concerns came up. The quality of work was excellent. We are very happy with how everything turned out in terms of functionality.
Honestly, we were worried about how stressful the project would be, as we have not done a remodeling project before at all, so taking on something of this magnitude was a huge concern. Alex and everyone that we worked with was helpful, calming, and professional. The whole experience was MUCH less stressful than I had thought it would be, which is a testament to the company's approach and skill. I would definitely use Alex and his company again if we need additional work on our home.
I especially appreciated their attention to detail. This is a 1905 house, converted in the 30's to a duplex and it has many quirks with unique baseboards and door frame trim as well as a ceiling and floor which were not level. It was a pleasure to come down each morning and see all they accomplished. I highly recommend Alex Freddi Construction.
The most challenging part for us was deciding on the overall materials, colors and vendors. But everything finally came together and we were very pleased with the outcome. My wife and I would not hesitate to use Alex Freddi and his team for our next home remodel project. Thank you.
The door was tricky b/c it was surrounded by lathe (sp?) and plaster walls - as in the past, Kyle was incredibly good at maintaining the integrity of the wall and the subcontractor filled in the minor gaps seamlessly. The door was on the corner of the foundation and required a custom door build. Kyle was available via phone when we were at Home Depot to walk us through the order since it was a no-return policy item. Kyle was on vacation with his family and had no problem taking time to help us out - he is a true professional.
Alex came out the first day of the renovation and, as in the past, instilled a significant amount of confidence - these guys do great work and they do it consistently and efficiently. Kyle was realistic with his time estimations and made sure we felt safe with the door being 'in process' during the week.
We don't think we have any more remodels to do on our little bungalow, but if something comes up, we feel confident in going back again to Alex Freddi.
Each and every member of his team was similarly attentive to any concerns we had during the project, and when the occasional unanticipated situations arose, these were handled smoothly and to our complete satisfaction. The flexibility displayed by Bob (the team lead), Bill, and Dennis (the tiler) were much appreciated. The design suggestions of the Suzanne at ProDesign Solutions (who helped us select the tiles) were spot-on.
Something that is helpful to know for those who like ourselves are novices in home remodeling, is that you should really work closely (and get started early) with the design and also the fixture folks. We spent quite a bit of unproductive time fumbling around with this ourselves before he led us back to work with the people who had the answers. This wasn't his fault, we just didn't understand what in integral part they needed to play in the process, especially given our inexperience. It did make things a bit nervy as we needed to get the project done fairly quickly and had several other important things distracting us at the time, but Alex proved to be a master facilitator, and was always available to help us sort things out.
In summary, we would unquestionably work with Alex Freddi again, and in fact are planning to ask for his help later this year with another bathroom remodel. We'd be very surprised if we could ever find anybody who could exceed the high standards he sets in all aspects of his work. Quite frankly, we don't know what anyone could have done that he did not. Considering that his estimate for the work was about what others quoted, we would see no advantage in working with anyone but him.
We are so very happy that we selected Alex Freddi to do the needed work in our home. When he came over to look at the work we wanted done he said "the result will be like the slider was never there" This was a very true statement. The result was beautiful and exceeded our expectations.
Alex and his crew were very professional and completed the work with minimal impact to the rest of our home. They carefully covered any surfaces that may have gotten dusty and put down protective plastic over the carpet on all of the paths leading to the work area. They always arrived at our home exactly on the time agreed to.
The projected schedule to complete the work was given before the job started, and the progress was communicated at the end of each day. Working with Alex was more like working with a long time friend that someone we just met. His commitment to providing excellent customer service is obvious in all of our interactions with Alex and his crew. I would (and do) recommend without hesitation Alex Freddi Construction LLC. to my friends and neighbors for any needed construction work.

We found Alex Freddi Construction through Angie's List. Our intention was to get three estimates and then make our decision on a contractor, but after we met Alex we didn't look anywhere else. In most cases this would probably be unwise, but we really liked Alex's manner and his knowledge, and felt comfortable going with him after reading the great reviews he had on Angie's List. We were not disappointed, and have already recommended his company to friends who saw the Before and After pictures of our remodel on Facebook. Alex was very responsive to any concerns (which were few), and would reassure us with "We'll take care of it" and they did.
Kathryn
We could not have done this project without Kathryn's design expertise. She led us through what could be a very overwhelming process by listening to our ideas, giving us suggestions, and then creating rendering with different options so we could visualize what our finished kitchen would look like. She went with us as we selected our cabinets, granite and tile, and was very responsive to emails. You knew she was fully engaged with the process of designing the kitchen as she would send emails with links for different options for this or that, or different ideas. Her eyes lit up when we looked at the granite, and you could tell that she just loved helping people make their homes beautiful.
Bob
Bob was our project manager, and he was wonderful with keeping the project moving along and communicating with us. He has a great, easy-going manner and we were so impressed by the quality of his work. I saw him and his partner, Bill, most often, and they were diligent workers with whom I felt comfortable having in our house even when we were gone. They cleaned up as much as they could each night, and just did amazing work. I can't say enough good things about them.
Everyone Else
I felt that all of the craftsmen who came in did their work well. I'd like to give a special shout-out to the floor guy, Vince, who made our wood floor look brand new, and the tile guy, whose name I don't know, who worked really h****** putting up some little decorative accent tiles and did a great job.
It might seem funny to summarize our remodel by people, but that's just really important to us. Of course, you wouldn't want to hire a great person to do lousy work, but when you can have great people do great work, then I think you have it made. That's how we felt about our experience with Alex Freddi Construction.
The house was originally built in 1989 and the master bathroom looked it with dark blue tile with pink accents and carpet. It also had a tiny shower (4 ft by 3 ft) for such a large bathroom (11 ft by 14 ft). The deal with Alex's team is that they would provide all the labor for the demo and construction of the new bathroom, with an estimated construction materials (plumbing materials, wood for supports, electrical boxes, etc.) cost. We would provide all of the fixtures going back into the bathroom (tub, vanities, sinks, hardware, toilet, tile, valves for the shower and tub, lights, switches, exhaust fan, etc.).
We spent a lot of time on tile for this project, and here is an important tip that we learned. Be sure to bring in the tiler and go over your ideas with them before you settle on any designs or tile types. Alex's tilers are very good, and they have some great ideas on how to make your bathroom look really great. We should have used them more in the beginning of our tiling design. As an example, we had purchased several different types of bullnose tiles to go around the shower and in the end we didn't use them because the tiler wanted to use regular tiles and cut them down to the approximate widths of bullnose tile. The tile company didn't want to take the bullnose tiles back, so we ate that cost. It was a good decision, because the lengths of the bullnose tiles did not match up with the lengths of the regular tiles. By cutting down regular tiles, the tiler was able to have less grout lines, and make them all match up better. However, we wish we had worked with the tiler before we made all of our tiling decisions.
The work went very well. We had a slight hiccup on the shower glass - not due to Alex's team. The first time, our shower glass was sent by the shower glass company to another job site and we received someone else's glass. Then once the glass was in, the shower glass company's manager came by to review the job and noticed a very tiny air bubble in one of the sheets of glass (we had not noticed it before). They replaced that glass panel. While there was a small hiccup, it shows that the subcontractors that Alex uses are all very concerned about the quality of their products and installations.
We are really pleased with the quality of the work, the progress made during the project, the cost, and most importantly - the open lines of communication with Alex's team. We highly recommend them and will be using them for future work ourselves.
Alex Freddi Construction to add additional support to our roof and insulate the attic. We had concerns about the load of our roof and wanted a second opinion from a structural engineer. Alex had not worked with one in the past but this did not deter him
from locating an engineer that could advise on that aspect of the work. Alex?s opinion was that if the project needed it, he would make it happen.
The next step in our home repair/update was repair of water damage in our basement. The original scope of the project was
removing and replacing the bottom few feet of drywall around the basement. After the drywall removal it was obvious that additional work would be needed due to leaking foundation walls behind the studs. This completely changed the
scope of the project and we felt confident that Alex was the right person to handle the challenge of a full remodel.
Alex sat with us and went over our modified plans. He let us know up front that there were portions of the job that could be quoted out (drywall, plumbing) and parts would best be done as time & materials (the soffits, decorative wood
work, etc.) There were portions of the project that I wanted to do myself because I had experience in the area (I did
my own electrical work) where as other portions I wanted Alex to manage, like the drywall and framing. He was happy to
work with this arrangement.
Alex is easy to communicate with whether it be by email, phone or texts. He was able to smoothly and effectively
coordinate between six subs, inspectors, my own work and still kept the project rolling. Alex would also make himself available to answer questions or to give a second opinion. He could quickly give me a breakdown of any issue that arose so I could understand it and helped explain the pros and cons of any changes that were needed. He was able to guide us through the process in a very reassuring way.
Kyle, a key member of Alex?s team, did some amazing framing and detailed wood work. His attention to the minor details makes the basement really shine. Kyle needed to work around some difficult piping to build a great soffit that allowed me to maximize head space, lighting and has great aesthetics. He was also able to incorporate details from the other wood work in our house that helps give continuity to a brand new basement in a 90 year old home.
Some of the things that I really appreciate about Alex were the way that he could work with our needs and requests, his attention to details, how he handled his subcontractors and his excellent communication. I always felt like our project was a priority for him even though we knew he was actively working on other projects. it was our project. When subs were required, Alex was there to meet with everyone and make sure that the work orders were clear and that there was no confusion or conflicts. He saw that the finished floor was protected at all times, the sump was always connected and the site was always clean.
I love the basement that Alex and his team built. It is 100 times more useful and inviting than when we moved in. I look forward to working with Alex again when it is time for our kitchen and bathroom remodels.
Kyle was our project manager and we could not have been more pleased! He is a young man who has an amazing work ethic. He was always in touch with us, answered many questions, big and small, and took pride in his work. He oversaw the different trades people who came in. They were all people he had worked with before. He kept us up to date on all that was happening and where we were on schedule. There were a few glitches that came up but Kyle took care of them to our satisfaction. He went above and beyond and we were impressed with him, and with Alex for having Kyle as one of his project managers.
We were told 3-5 weeks and we were done by 5 weeks. Kyle, and the other tradespeople who came in cleaned up after themselves and were on time, or called if they were running late. Kyle would even let our dogs out as they were being kept out of their usual place they stayed during the day.
WE LOVE OUR NEW KITCHEN!!!! We would recommend Alex Freddi Construction to any one looking to do a remodel.
Even though there will always be surprises when remodeling an old place Alex was always on top of things and communicated any surprises clearly and always gave a good overview of all the options. His problem solving skills were some of the best I've encountered as a customer. His suggestions for materials and suppliers were very helpful.
Kyle, who did much of the work, was great to work with. His workmanship was top quality.
The sub-contractors hired were all quality teams. Especially the drywall/painting crew and the siding folks.
was prompt, courteous, clean and did a beautiful job cutting and fitting the tile.
The new replacement tile that my husband and I had chosen was thicker than the tile that was originally on the floor, so the bathroom floor with new tile was about 1/8" higher than the hallway entrance. Kyle crafted a thin wooden threshold for smooth transition from hallway into bathroom. And it looks great!
Alex Freddi updated our master bathroom in 2009. My husband and I were extremely pleased with his quality of work and therefore hired him again for our secondary bathroom.
