Green Growth Landscape Maintenance

I first hired Green Growth about 5 years ago, for ongoing landscape maintenance.  They let me know when there are issues that need attention, like insects, or  the sprinkler system.  After  a few months, I knew that they were professional and responsive, and I started paying them quarterly for year round service.  For about $30 a week, the grass and shrubs are kept neat, and well fed. 
On several occasions, we've had them do larger jobs, like regrading the front yard, including a small retaining wall and installing new sod.  
They get an A+ for consistency and reliability!

Herminio is a real professional! He and his crew including his son, pruned entire my garden and it was still cheaper than Ward Tree Care I had used last year (Do not use this company. They did a terrible job and expensive. They have not done what was in estimation and I still had to pay. I had to go out to the garden to tell them which brunch to prune because crews was not professionally trained). I first noticed Herminio working on my neighbor's garden and they pruned Japanese maple tree in beautiful way. So I decided to get estimation and it was very reasonable.

They removed dead tree roots and stamps, small dead bushes, and really cleaned up my garden well! They actually did more than what was in estimation but Herminio did not ask for extra charge. Because they were so good, I ended up asking him to re-do my sprinkler system by changing sprinkler heads, rearranging the position and direction of water streams, etc. for water efficiency. My water bill was less after he did the work.

Then he noticed how my grand was wet as our house sits on clay area. I have a lot of issue in the winter. I just cannot walk in my garden because it was too slippery. He suggested me French Drain system. They dig the ground and installed the pipe, connecting it to the existing underground storm water drainage.

Totally they did three peojects in three different days but they are always on time, work really hard and finish it in time.

I liked Herminio and his hard working crew so much. Unlike other contractors, Herminio did not give me any stress at all. I even gave tips for his crew because they worked so hard in 100F weather! I am thinking next project with him for the patio. In few years, the retain wall for the garden need to be redone from existing wood wall to concrete or to stone. I will definitely hire him because Herminio is trustworthy and reliable!

I had two items that I needed landscaping help with. The first was that I had ordered an outdoor shed for our back yard. What I needed help with was to get a level spot for the shed to sit in the back yard. Out back yard has an 18inch slope over the 16 feet where the shed is to sit. I met with Green Growth and we did a walk through and talked about what I needed to have done. The solution was to build up the lower end of the area with a retaining wall, fill with hard packed soil and then four inches of 3/4 minus gravel that has been compacted.
The second thing I needed was to create an area for our motor home to sit. We had a spot next to our existing driveway but it had a comination of loose soil and barkdust, not ideal for parking a larger motorhome. The solution offered by Green Growth was to dig down to solid soil, lay down a fabric, four to six inches of 3/4 minus and then one to two inches of 1/4 minus, everything compacted.
I accepted the $3700 proposal and told them I needed it done before the shed was scheduled to be installed so they scheduled me about 1 1/2 weeks out which worked out perfectly.
They sent two workers on Friday afternoon to get started on the back yard. They created the perimeter for the raised area and started laying blocks for the retaining wall. They were very meticulous, being sure that the finished area was flat and level.
On Saturday morning several people showed up and got to work. They finished the blocks for the backyard shed site and then started on the RV parking area. They removed a lot of soil in the front all the way to hard pack, laid down a perimeter of paving blocks around the area and then laid down a heavy duty landscaping cloth (heavy duty to keep the weight of the RV from puncturing it and letting gravel and soil mix). They then put in between four and six inches of 3/4 minus in one to two inch layers, compacting it between each layer. When they got to the top one inch they then switched to 1/4 minus and compacted it over and over, to assure a very firm base.
In the meantime, two other workers were finishing the back yard shed site, laying down multiple layers of 3/4 minus and compacting it as they went.
Something that really impressed me was that when they were almost done with everything and a couple of the workers had run out of things to do, the supervisor had them grab a couple rakes and rake our front yard. That was totally unexpected but a really nice thing to do.
They finished everything right when they said they would. Everything was cleaned up and looks great.

After visiting 1-800 contractor, and putting in a request for lawn service, Green Growth was the first to respond and he responded quickly. I told him what I was looking for. We arranged a time to meet and Hermino showed up right on schedule. As we walked the yard he offered suggestions and told me what I could expect.
I really wanted to get the work done that day, but he said his crew was on another job and could come the next day. About 15 minutes after he left, he called and said his crew was finishing up and they could come today. About 5 five guys showed up did the work and my yard now looks nicely maintained.
Herminio is professional, communicates well and does what he says. We are getting proposals from him for additional work as I believe from just this one experience he has strong work ethics. I would definitely recommend him.

The long wet Portland winter had left my yard a mess. The grass on the front lawn was 10 inches high! Snow has bent a Yew tree next to the driveway so much that it was blocking the garage. The gardens surrounding the house were ragged and weedy. Downed branches were piled up in the back yard. A sinkhole had mysteriously appeared at the end of a drain near the street. It was overwhelming.

I started searching Angie's List and found Green Growth. Reviews seemed very positive, so I gave them a call. I'm glad I did.

1) Service was very fast. I called Green Growth late Friday evening. Rene came by to give me an estimate at 9:00 AM the next morning, and the work was scheduled and completed the day after.

2) Work was completed quickly and exactly to my requirements. Rene, his son Mario, and one other man arrived early Sunday morning and completed the work in about five hours. When Rene had given me the original estimate, we had discussed a specific list of items (mowing, weeding, etc.). When his crew arrived I added some additional details: I wanted the lawns mowed to a particular length (not too short); I wanted some of the plants in the front garden transplanted into pots so I could relocate them later; the sinkhole had turned out to be bigger than I thought and required minor repair to a PVC drain pipe; I wanted the gardens along the house and quot;squared upand quot; in addition to being weeded. Rene and his crew did a great job at all these tasks.

3) They were very thorough and detail oriented. They removed weeds from the gardens I had not even seen, plucking them from between flowers and ground cover without damaging the plants I wanted to keep. They raked the bare spots in the gardens, removing debris and aerating the top layer of soil. They dug grass out of the gardens and straightened their edges so they were and quot;squared upand quot;. They mowed the overgrown pasture that my front yard had become three times! using a combination of two lawn mowers and a and quot;weed wacker' to get the grass under control.

4) They were very professional. They arrived on time, asked me questions when they needed to, seemed knowledgable about what they were doing, suggested additional work I had not thought of (see below), worked hard, and cleaned up after themselves.

5) They did a few things I had not expected or had not thought about, like blowing leaves off my back patio, removing dead growth from several bushes and ferns, reshaping a couple of flowering bushes, and raking the bare spots in the gardens.

Overall, it was an easy process for me. I told them what I wanted, they offered suggestions and they got it done. It is so nice to know if I need anything, I can just call, and they will do what they can to help me out.

Our 20 year old lawns had been ravaged by mole tunnels and various pets. There were very overgrown shrubs in the land heading down to a ravine behind our back lawn. We hired Green Growth to fix these problems. I am a demanding customer.

The owner/ boss Herminio (as in and quot;Hermanand quot;), was excellent to work with because he is professional, has good judgement, participates in the actual physical work, directs/ supervises his crew well, and is punctual/ entirely dependable. He has a book keeper who communicates well/ accurately by email. Herminio is easy to reach by cell phone, is very responsive, and does NOT have a big ego.

Before starting the work, Herminio and his brother Carlos checked out our sprinkler system which we hadn't used yet this year. They found a significant leak due to a cracked pipe and repaired this well. They then checked all of the sprinkler heads and adjusted some/ replaced others such that they work perfectly now.

They re-sodded the lawns as indicated above. In doing so, Herminio gave us multiple good suggestions for altering the borders of the lawns, and adding some contour for interest. He also provided excellent suggestions for care of these gorgeous new lawns including exactly how to water them depending on the temperature. By the way, all of the above work was done in 1 day because Herminio had a large crew of at least 7 men on the job --- and they worked hard! The clean-up was first rate as well.

The result of all the above was beautiful. The lawns' quality and color now is gorgeous! The contouring is perfect. The new flower beds and the vegetable garden are wonderful. The work was so good that we hired Green Growth to add 2 low wood retaining walls to 1 side of our back yard with a flower bed between them. This also worked out very well. There were a couple of very minor issues that surfaced during the work, which Herminio took care of immediately upon my mentioning them to him. We have also now hired Green Growth to do the lawn maintenance, and we have been happy with this as well.

The crew of 5 arrived early in the morning and by evening the work was done to perfection. Herminio came back the next day and finished off the rock garden. They were careful with the surrounding are and nothing was damaged. The fine tuned the sprinkler system and explained to us the schedule for watering and mowing.
