The contractor called me two and a half hours before he was supposed to arrive and asked if he could come "now." Though we work nights (and noon was a better start for us), I said yes. TV mount installation: He ripped open the box (I can send pictures) and took everything out, then proceeded to ignore both the hardware and the instructions. When I asked him what he was doing, he said he was using his own screws. I told him I didn't want him to do that, but rather I wanted him to use the screws that came with the hardware. He picked the largest screw from the installation kit and said he would drill through the metal in the mounting unit. I told him that wasn't what I wanted him to do. The installation kit has MANY screws (for all kinds of walls) and I wanted him to use the RIGHT one. He got belligerent, saying that he knew what he was doing. We talked for some time, before he said that he had no idea what I wanted him to do. I told him we were done. He said that he'd done TV mount installations in CA and what he was doing was "earthquake proof" and if it fell off the wall, we could have his "million dollar house." I told him I would pay him for his time. He said he didn't want payment, but he just didn't want a bad review and that I should report we both cancelled. (Which I did.) He has since said that he wants to be paid. I don't want to harm his business. I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd be happy with a handyman who uses his own equipment. I'm just not one of them.
