stair ways and existing patios, regrading the grounds, adding gravel
and clean up. They exceeded our expectations in every respect. We were
concerned that with their bid being the lowest of four that corners
might be cut but none were. I would hire them again for any kind of
concrete work and highly recommend them here.
I was in the process of selling my home and needed a good deal on replacing my driveway. I was away from town and needed a good contractor to complete the job without my presence. I contacted two to three contractors in the area and received an immediate response from Mac Construction. Additionally, the quotation provided from Mac Construction was significantly lower than their competitors. I received a call right away and the contact person (Cresencio) provided a quotation the same day. The job was done on time and the quality was excellent. Being on the road while having the job done was a challenge; however, Cresencio and his team completed the task with minimal complications.
I highly recommend Mac Construction for driveway work to anybody.
Crescencio Martinez always showed up when he said he would, was always accessible by phone and email, and did a quality job that has significantly improved the curb appeal of my home. Not to mention building the driveway I should have had all of these years. I couldn't be happier.
I noticed few spots, as they were pouring, where the wire mesh was within 1/2and quot; of the surface. And afterward, we could see the wire poking through the surface in 2 corners of the room.
The floor has no level spots within a 4' area; Dips and bumps galore.
The and quot;finishand quot; on the pour was not finished at all. We were told that the estimate says and quot;hard troweland quot;, but we specifically asked that the floor be COMPLETELY FINISHED. After he was called back to look at the job we were unhappy with, the gentelman said and quot; This is as good as it getsand quot;, to which my boss repied, and quot; then this is as good as your payment getsand quot; :) What good is a budget floor if we have to hire another contractor to finish the job?!?
It would be helpful if this contractor was able to effectively communicate in the English language.
"with these people we don't have any contract, this is a meddler person. The contract was made with Jim Herderson(owner of the business ) this person is very arrogant and stingy. On my contract, I was very specific on the smooth finish floor and I explained that the polish finish floor is different and required more money and time , and he didn't accepted the pay of the extra work and labor. IF THE JOB WAS DONE TERRIBLY, WHY DIDN'T HE PUT A CLAIM WITH THE CCB. OR ON MY INSURANCE OR BOND ? WE HAVE 07 YEARS ON MY BUSINESS, AND CCB LINCENCE IS VERY CLEAN CCB#176314 the business of this project is on 7800 SW. Barbur blvd, portland OR, if somebody wants to look at it."
a) They worked hard
b) They were pleasant
c) They completed the work on time
d) They negotiated a fair price with us
The Cons:
a) Although our grading needs (the zero grade 90and quot;x90and quot; was raised with the contractor on multiple occasions), the new grade did NOT match the existing grade (there is 3/8and quot; difference). This is problematic for us since our hot tub has to be completely level (something the hot tub company told us and something we conveyed clearly to the contractor). There were also smaller variations in grading within this 90and quot;x90and quot; area. After calling the contractor about the problem (we discovered this problem after they left on 8/26/11, they have not returned our call (it is now 8/30/11). However, they have deposited the check we gave them. We are now left with the problem of how to address the grading before our hot tub arrives next week.
b) The contractor damaged our siding when they cut a portion in order to lay the new concrete. This was not brought to our attention. We discovered the problem after they left. This was also raised as an issue in the above call with no response. We have also been left to deal with the siding issue.
There were also additional issues (smaller, but still of concern):
c) We had clearly informed the contractor (on multiple occasions) that we wanted the new concrete to interface with the old concrete (which had a curve) in a straight line. This did not happen. When we raised this as a problem (since the work had not been done as requested), the contractor used and quot;sandand quot; to bridge the difference (since they did not reserve enough concrete to do so). It looks better than what was originally done. However, there is a visible difference between the old concrete, the new concrete, and now the additional and quot;sandand quot; patch.
d) There is a strange hump in another portion of the transition between the old and the new concrete (a grading issue). This visual hump is made worse because a) It is not even (it is a curved line), and b) the higher portion has visible rock and the other portion is smooth with little visible rock.
If the problems from the work completed were less functional in scope (e.g., grading), we would have provided a higher rating. However, in light of the grading issues as well as lack of responsiveness on the part of the contractor, we were not able to provide them with a higher rating.
MAC Concrete Construction are very professional in all respects.
