Poor negotiations from the moment we signed the contract.  He asked for $52K down (a huge surprise) but negotiated down to $11,500.  Learned 4 weeks later he'd not bought the lot we'd chosen and he asked us to chose another (we refused).  Did not build the home to the specs, i.e., the media room access stairway and door were reduced in size 4" which meant large furniture could not be moved up the stairway and the room could no longer be used for a media room without purchasing smaller furniture.  He failed to install plumbing to the upstairs half bath and insisted we pay an extra $600 to finiish it out but wanted us to build the house and to install the plumbing at our own expense after the home was built.  Told us we had to install a retaining wall in the back of the property when the contract clearly said the contractor was responsible for all dirt work and landscaping ($3000 we did it just to keep the process rolling).  Ultimately, we asked to cancel the contract because of the many shortcuts, deviations from the plans, additional costs that would not be shown in the final value of the home, and that he would not allow us to chose things such as faucet style, woodwork trim, etc.  We lost roughly $8000 by cancelling the contract which should not have been the case since the contract said all monies would be returned, but to take him to court would have cost about $20,000 so simply cut our losses.  STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!  The homes are mid-level construction and we noticed all his homes we visited have a problem with cracks in the ceiling between the kitchen and adjoining rooms.
