FlatSafe Tornado Shelters

We had a storm shelter installed by Flatsafe on April 3rd, 2018. We were very happy with the install and cleanup. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a storm shelter. We wanted an in-ground storm shelter and had visited a couple of other installers before we went to the Flatsafe showroom. We knew it was going to be a difficult install because of the very small area we were dealing with – a detached, single car garage very near the house with a stockade fence on one side. When we visited Flatsafe we were greeted and shown the in-ground shelter choices. We were able to thoroughly check them out while they explained to us how they worked. We liked the single door configuration and were impressed with the video showing the strength of it. We spoke with them about the difficult install. They were very positive about being able to do it but because of our concern they sent Corey to check out the area. He was very knowledgeable and reassuring and said they could install the shelter just fine. We had offered to remove the stockade fence if that would help but he said it wasn’t necessary. Corey explained that the install would just take extra time because the backhoe driver would need to carefully back up the driveway to dump the dirt each time. They added an additional charge of $200 because of the extra effort/time involved which we thought was very fair. They gave us instructions on getting the shelter permit and Linda called a week before the install to confirm and let us know what to expect. Then Chance called the evening before to confirm again and let us know what time to expect the team. Upon arriving on time the next morning they quickly got to work. They were polite, did an amazing job, and cleaned everything up thoroughly. They even power washed the garage floor. In our search for a good company with an excellent storm shelter we found that Flatsafe stands out far above the others with their excellent products and service. We were so thankful that they were willing to take on this challenging job.

The Flatsafe installation crew, headed by Mr. Joe Baldwin, arrived on schedule. I was impressed from the start with how well organized they were and the precision with which they worked together with each succeeding task. To my surprise they were actually cleaning up as they worked, brushing dirt debris back into the hole rather than tracking it around the garage or onto the driveway. In my review of potential contractors I noted that most used dirt excavated to back fill the space around the shelter.
Flatsafe hauls all the dirt and concrete removed to a dump site and brings in a concrete ready-mix firm to completely fill and finish the area around the unit and provide yet another element of safety to the shelter. When completed the entire area was power-washed and I must admit the garage was cleaner than when the crew first arrived - testament to the true professionals providing the installation and the high standards of both product and service set by Flatsafe Tornado Shelters. Anyone considering a shelter addition to their home or business owes it to themselves to visit Flatsafe's Yukon Office / Showroom to see firsthand the quality products they offer. Upon arrival one man measured and outlined where shelter would go while the other two men unloaded equipment and prepared to work. Everything was done cleanly with the utmost care. They swept and picked up everything as they worked. They cut and removed the concrete in the floor of the garage, carrying it to the truck. They brought in a digger to remove the dirt and carried it away. They then inserted the shelter surrounding it with cement to secure it.

Showed up on time. Entire process was done within 4 hours. Very courteous and clean. Great experience

We were very happy with the office staff and the installers. Everything went exactly as they said ti would. They knew exactly how to deal with the city. (Very simple, and they will tell you what to do and provide the paperwork.) After the installation was finished, they trained us in how to use the shelter. Our shelter came with a come-along (winch) for pulling back the lid if something falls on it, which they showed us how to operate.
I love being able to drive over and walk over the lid. It's not flush with the garage floor. It comes about an inch out of the ground, but the edges are sloped so it's very easy to roll over with the lawnmower and it's virtually impossible to trip on.

It only took one afternoon. The workers used heavy equipment to dig a hole and construct the shelter. They had their motions down to a science. Nothing wasted. They would have hauled off all the dirt but I asked to keep it. The concrete used water to virtually eliminate concrete dust in the air. They left a few scrapes on the driveway, but overall, I could not help but be impressed.

The folks at FlatSafe were great to work with. They were prompt, professional, and we are very happy with the work more than 1.5 years later.

They were a little late, but they stayed until close to 8pm so it would be done in 1 day. They let us know when they were close to being done so they could explain the features of the storm shelter and how to use sliding door properly.

The office called about a week ahead and asked if they could reschedule for 2 days earlier than the original date. They arrived early on the rescheduled date and work was completed in about 4 hours. The installers were very professional and courteous. Everything was cleaned prior to their departure. I could not have been more pleased!

They were on time. It only took 4 hours and I could ask all the questions I wanted and they would answer. They worked like a fine-tuned machine, they were just so efficient, and they knew what they were doing. They cleaned up after themselves during the whole operation, they didn't just wait until it was over and then do it. They were just excellent! They were very polite, very informative, and very efficient. They delivered what they said they will in the time frame of 4 hours, and they told me so and so was going to come around a certain time to take the debris away and they were there on time. They were efficient and on time and I just wasn't used to that. They were really good. The storage unit fit well. We got the largest one. I would use them again and I would recommend them to anyone.

We needed an above ground safe room due to physical limitations of my husband. Our great experience started in the showroom, and continued when additional contact was needed while I was at the courthouse to obtain a permit and during installation. These folks are true professionals! They are very nice too and do exceptional work. The installation was fast and the installer cleaned up after it was completed. He went over how to secure the door and other "tips." When spring rolled around this year, we received a letter reminding us it was time to sweep the shelter out and "get ready." I can't say enough nice things about these folks.

They were excellent. They came, they arrived at the time they said they would, and they were very efficient. They came and started doing the work. The gentleman who came is called Glen. He cleaned up everything and it looks really good. I didn't have a mess in my garage. I am happy. I thought the price was reasonable, and they were $100 within everyone else. They have a one time transferable warranty.

They were on time and they cleaned up all their mess. They performed all of the construction elements, like a ballet with no wasted movements, and it was incredible to watch. They did it in a little less than four hours. I paid $3200 for a unit that would hold 6-8 people, which was really good. It was seamless working with them in the city agency. Their instructions were very clear and the unit is comfortable.
