Landscaping
He performed the work while I was at work. Came home to find out that out of perhaps 6-8 plants still alive in the bed, he pulled out EVERYTHING except a small rose bush; the bed was completely leveled, and he had pulled out and tossed a half-dozen plants in there that could have been trimmed but were still very much alive.
He asked me what sort of plants I wanted in there, and I suggested perhaps some Lantana, or Coreopsis, Salvias...Dwarf Nandinas? He had no clue what any of those were, and told me just to text him the names. Seemed to know really nothing about plants, had no suggestions, etc.
Then he told me that the plants would be extra, another few hundred dollars.... so I had just paid $250 for him to level a small flower bed and cover it with mulch. WAY too much. I told him that I didn't need him for anything more, and he agreed to take $200 for the butchering job he had already done, and we called it a day.
(Plus, when I started to balk at the price he started throwing way lower numbers around; and I realized that his pricing was all over the map, and not based on what it was worth but on what he thought I would pay... that's when I decided to just cut this relationship short.)
I would not have minded the prices at all if he had not killed all my still-living plants, and if he had been far more clear that any new plants were going to be an additional (hefty) fee.
