Traavco construction

We met with three general contractors and delivered all three professional plans we had drawn up by an interior bathroom design company which had detailed specifications for the remodel of our master bathroom.  We submitted the plans to all three companies thinking we would be able to compare price and quality of work. 

We did not select the lowest estimate but instead the middle estimate thinking he would do better work and be more professional not to mention that he came recommended by a local residential real estate agent we knew.

What was to be a three week project took over three months and the sub contractor was constantly having  to be reminded about missed appointments and his people not showing up (later to find they all haven't been paid).  Then at the end without any notice we receive a final bill for over 150% of the job estimate without any discussion what so ever.

By far the worst experience working with a general contractor in my 30 years of experience in dealing with GC's. 

I have had him do other projects for me, including tiling my kitchen and stonework on the front of the house which went well overall and I had given the kitchen tile work a great review(which I don't see now). Based on that I thought other projects would go well. I had him repaint 32 shutters and he did not sand or use a primer and the Sherwin Williams trim paint did not adhere well. He dropped all the shutters off and every single one had paint that had come off in places. I asked him to come back and showed him and his response was that I did not provide primer. I asked for part of the money back if he could not fix them and he felt that was unfair. I asked him if he had a better solution to the problem and he said he would get back to me and I never heard back.
The tile projects were fine but based on this experience I will not use again. Maybe he has branched out into areas that are not his forte.

I had my counters replaced with granite and the company that I used for the countertop  recommended Traavco for the backsplash and coordinated the time so that it could all be done at once. The tiling was one of the smoothest house projects that I've ever had (for reference, I've already refinished a different house so Traavco would be the 5th tile guy I've used over the years - and the best). I picked a herringbone tile pattern with marble pencil borders and I could not be happier with it. They showed up on time, he was easy to communicate with and get a hold of when I needed to. I even made a last minute change the night before on the grout color after some suggestions from him and it was not a problem at all (and looks better than what I was planning on using).
Details: They were very precise and there was almost no waste and I returned a whole box of tiles. He pays a lot of attention to details and custom ground down one of the tiles so that it would lay at a more appealing height compared to the others. They were clean and careful of the rest of the house as well.
I wish I had known about him earlier because based on this project, I would gladly use them again for any other construction project on my house that they can do. I felt like he did my kitchen tile project like he would have done his own kitchen.
