We met with three general contractors and delivered all three professional plans we had drawn up by an interior bathroom design company which had detailed specifications for the remodel of our master bathroom. We submitted the plans to all three companies thinking we would be able to compare price and quality of work.
We did not select the lowest estimate but instead the middle estimate thinking he would do better work and be more professional not to mention that he came recommended by a local residential real estate agent we knew.
What was to be a three week project took over three months and the sub contractor was constantly having to be reminded about missed appointments and his people not showing up (later to find they all haven't been paid). Then at the end without any notice we receive a final bill for over 150% of the job estimate without any discussion what so ever.
By far the worst experience working with a general contractor in my 30 years of experience in dealing with GC's.
