The cabinet doors were taken to the shop and the result was excellent. The painters that came in to do the walls and ceiling did a good job. There was a problem when the owner said there were more doors than he had originally counted. That was not true but I negotiated a modest price increase to cover it because there were a lot of doors to be painted. The big problem started with the inside of the cabinet. The bid was clear that the work involved priming and two coats inside and out on the cabinets. The inside was primed only and a lot of the bid caulking was not done.Anything readily visible was well done; the rest was pretty shoddy. When confronted the owner was pretty defensive and claimed that everything had two coats of paint. When shown the inside of the cabinets he said it wasn't necessary to paint those because no one could see them. We had to leave the house for an hour or so and while we were gone he took car wax from our garage and used it on the inside of the cabinets. When we came home we could smell wax and found the car wax container on the kitchen counter. He also did not show up the next day when he was supposed to finish some other tasks that had not been completed. When I confronted him on the phone about the wax he said that my wife wanted wanted shiny and she got shiny. There were some other problems over how much paint was used and the amount of some of the materials he bought but all could have been overcome if he had not waxed the wood. We had to go to a lot of trouble to remove the wax and paint the inside ourselves since my wife would not let him inside the house again. I might also point out that I still owed him a small amount of money that he never tried to collect.
