Larry Moss is a friendly guy and very responsive (at first). When the water leak through the ceiling was first discovered, I had my roofer see where the problem might be. He and another fellow looked and noted that it was actually coming in through the rotten siding next to the second floor window which had the design of being an "insert" into the roof line. I had a couple of contractors come out and showed them the problem. Individually, they identified the leak as coming through the siding at the window area, just as described by the roofer. They gave me prices and I chose one of them. He was busy for a couple of weeks and would call me. After follow up by me with no good results, I looked for another contractor and asked Larry Moss to come out.
Larry was prompt and reviewed the problem. He indicated he knew how to fix it based on his 40 years in the construction business, and said he'd seen this problem on many other houses. He said he'd send me a cost proposal and did, I accepted it, and he called a few days later and said his schedule opened up and he could do it right away. I said please do, but half way through the job I found he wasn't using the materials we had discussed. Disagreements proceeded. I said I'm not a contractor but the other guys who looked at it said the materials should be either cedar or hardy board due to the water contact. He insisted the OSB he had already installed was better.
After that I found he hadn't installed trim to close gaps between the siding and the roof. He agreed he should have and the next day I discovered he was installing pine. I said I don't know that much about what should be used but pine sure didn't seem right. Despite his arguing about it, he got some cedar and installed that for the trim. The trim around the window though was already installed with the pine. He also didn't install flashing along the siding as he said he would. His response to that was that there was flashing behind the OSB he installed and that was sufficient.
When he finished the job, I paid him, and two days later the rain came down and back through the ceiling below. I called him, but he didn't call back. I wrote to him and got no response. I called him 10 days later from a number he wouldn't know, he answered it, we talked about it and he said the problem wasn't where "I" said it was. My response was that I'm not a construction guy and relied on him. He said he did what he said he would do so get someone else.
