I contacted handyman Extraordinaire as a prior customer for them to come out and estimate my repairs. The first time I called they told me that they would have a repairman call me back. A week later I had yet to receive a call, so I called the office once again. I spoke to the same office staff member who apologized to me for no one calling me back and told me that she would have someone call me shortly. I received a call back from her with the name of the repairman I should be expecting to call me. Shortly thereafter, I received a call from him and we setup a time to meet.
The day of the estimate, he was at my home promptly and appeared well groomed and polite. I showed him the needed repairs and he would email them to me. I have yet to receive that email and it has been about a week and a half later.
I decided to go with another company to do the repairs and wanted to express in this review how disappointed I was with how I was forgotten by them.
"We are sorry for your experience in getting your free estimate. Had we known at the office we would have been able to expedite that for you, perhaps our craftsman had a wrong email address."
"We are sorry for your experience back in Sept. 2015 For some reason the electronic info did not get to the craftsman that served your needs in the past. Communication with our office could have corrected any issue with that info."
First, when they laid the tile, they did not tile all the way back to the wall, so once the dishwasher was installed, it was not level and was moving out of place. I asked them if they should tile all the way to the wall, but they said it's not necessary. Now having spoken with other professionals, I have been told that the tile should always go all the way to the wall. The first red flag came up when I noticed after coming home one day that my water hose in the front yard had been cut off because a nozzle was stuck on it and they needed to use the hose. They didn't tell me they had cut off the nozzle, I was the one that discovered the cut hose and told them they needed to buy me a new one. Well, I got the new hose, but didn't realize until later on that they had put the expense of the new hose on my personal Home Depot account. Very frustrating.
Once most of the work was done in the kitchen, there were just a few small details that needed to be wrapped up, so I went ahead and paid them for all of the work. That was a big mistake because once I paid them, they just stopped returning my messages. I could only get them to come by when I let them know my new dishwasher was clogged after using it for the first time, which was caused by them not installing it properly. I could tell that they were annoyed with me (probably because I texted them multiple times every day to see when everything was going to get finished) and they hardly acknowledge me when they came by this last time. They started to leave without letting me know, and I practically had to chase them down to get them to talk to me before they left. They were incredibly rude and had no intention of finishing what was left (which included framing in a window, leveling a wall that was added in, finishing trim work, securing the dishwasher...again, and removing all of the trash and debris from my garage). I ended up paying someone else to finish up their work and to go back and fix several things they did incorrectly. They also did poor electrical work and I have had issues with some of the new outlets they installed. Also, when they were ready to get a check from me, they gave me a number that was well over a couple thousand dollars more than the original quote. Luckily I had the original written estimate, and they said they did their math wrong when they did the estimate and it was "my lucky day" to be getting such a price. Seemed sketchy to me.
"Customer had hired another contractor and for some reason released him from doing the work, she was then going to do the work herself but determined it was too difficult. She was doing the painting herself to save money. There was no initial down payment, customer purchased materials. Addressing the pics: -Tile was installed per customer’s agreement to save money since cabinets would be covering the area, tile was installed under the stove area. -Correction to the dishwasher draining was taken care of the next morning and was secure -The hose was stuck in the nozzle and could not be removed. A new hose was purchased and when the craftsman tried to pay for it, he was told not to worry about it and said she needed a new hose anyway. -The backsplash, that was included in the original pricing and then deducted from the bill, was to be installed at a later date at which time the window trim and any finishing trim work would be completed and was included in the price of the backsplash. Customer said she would let him know when she got the backsplash, however he never heard from her. Final payment was requested upon completion of the work up to this point. He had miss figured, however stood by the price originally given. From what she had said, her boyfriend and her father all liked the work that was done and thought it looked great."
"Respectfully, I don’t know why this is being posted on our information since we do not have any working service orders with this member."
Steve explained that some repairs might take longer due to faucet supply line and valve corrosion (it did), but Steve's estimate stayed the same despite additional labor time. He even came back a second day at the time promised to finish the job. While we had already bought some materials for certain jobs based on style, Steve bought other parts only he'd know what to buy (related to faucet and toilet repairs).
Bottom line...it couldn't have gone better. Steve was professional, communicative, and followed through on every promise he made. We'll be calling Steve in the future.
