I had a 4-ft sandstone, WPA-rock, retaining wall, from the 1930's, that ran the entire length of the front yard.  The lawn had shifted over the years and was pushing the wall out at the top by at least a foot.  It was also extremely cracked and almost falling over in one place.  I had several masonry places from Angie's List come out to give me a quote but the Wendlands were the only ones to take the time to go over what had happened, why it couldn't be repaired, and what my options were.  Via email, the son Coe patiently worked through numerous options with me until we found one that suited me.
They removed the existing wall right away for me, as it was a liability if it fell on someone.  There was a short delay with getting the brick order in but things went very quickly once it did.  The crew as extremely professional and the cleanup was immaculate.  I highly recommend this wonderful family-owned company and would definitely use again.

Men took out old wall and finished with a stone wall.  Very pretty pattern in the stone work.  Clean up was impeccable.

The whole project lasted 2 days and did not disrupt our daily routines. They, the workers, explained everything that they were doing and how it would look once everything was in place and had cured and hardened. They were very courteous treated us with the utmost respect, which is something that I place a lot of faith on in a company. Not only did they complete the work on time, you could not tell that they had even been there. I am disabled and therefore cannot climb a ladder and the graciously offered to re-attach a window shutter on a second story window that had been blown off the brick during a wind storm. They asked for no compensation for that and they also replaced a foam faucet cover that had been damaged during their work. This is a company that respects and treats its' clients like family. I fully endorse Wendland Masonry and Excavating to anyone who wants high quality work done at a very reasonable price.

They gave me a fair estimate and a contract. Sel insured. Took off iron railings on porch and added several new steps to porch so the incline would be less difficult to climb. Blended in with old brick work and mortar was exact mix for my 1926 built house. Bricks too. Also built sidewalk from driveway to sidewalk in front. Perfect work in a difficult trade that would stand up against anyone else. My expectations were surpassed.

He was very prompt in responding to our requests.  His work was excellent.  He did exactly as he said he would.  Our yard was left in great condition with everything picked up and clean.  I am looking forward to using him again as soon as we have a need.  Great experience!!!

We had a problem with the chimney mortar crumbling and leaking at the top of a very tall chimney.  We got several estimates & some were as high as $20,000 to tear down the chimney & re-build it.  However, we did not need a new chimney.  All we needed was the top part of the chimney to be repaired.  Mr. Wendland came by the house and gave us a very reasonable estimate that entailed taking down only 6 - 8 courses of brick and rebuilding the chimney cap.  This involved setting up scaffolding very high up and about 3 days of work.  Also, they had to get the chimney paint computer matched in order to repaint the chimney when finished.  The paint matches the rest of the house perfectly.  They did an outstanding job!  The chimney is now fixed and repainted it is just beautiful!    The Wendland men were very very neat & tidy and took care to use padding on the roof so that the scaffolding would not mar the roof.  They cleaned up every bit of debris created by the job and left the yard in pristine condition.  The crew was very professional and they did an excellent job.   Mr. Wendland has been in the construction business since 1972 and he is very knowledgeable about all aspects of buiding & repair.  He has an A+ rating with the BBB.  We highly recommend Wendland Masonary for any type of brick or stone work.  They also can do other types of residential or commercial construction work..  Wendland Masonary does a great job for a very fair price.

Wendland did a GREAT job. They are true craftsmen and were extremely pleasant to have around while they were working. They took great care to explain every step of the work - what they were doing and why - and what had been missing from the original construction.. When the old bricks were removed we discovered that the house has been built without any house wrap over the plywood decking. They made sure that was remedied before they replaced the brick (no additoinal cost). They rebricked the gable installing an angle iron over the arch to support the bricks above and took great care to install plenty of ties between the house and the bricks ( none originally). Other cracks in brickwork were sawn out and repaired. They were able to repair the mailbox without rebuildingit and did not charge addiitonal for that. No complaints at all and would definitley recommend their services.
