MC GILL ROOFING

It started out fine they called before coming out to repair/replaced damage to eaves on storage building. They arrived and dropped off the materials and returned after lunch approximately 1:30 pm to do repairs. They left promptly at 4:30pm. When I came home from work to see the work I was upset. The work to me was not professional looking and they did not use the same material as was there. To make matters worse they hadn't even cleaned up after themselves. Everything they took down off of building was left where-ever it fell. I found pieces of wood with nails sticking up just laying here and there. I sent them a letter with partial payment asking for them to clarify the material used (no venting of the eaves which I expected because that was what was on there before they repaired it), were they not responsible for cleaning up after themselves, had a supervisor inspected the work after completion, and were they going to warranty the work. I informed them I would pay the remaining money once my questions were answered and they came and cleaned up the mess. One of the owners called me within 24 hours to answer my questions. She stated that the solid particle board soffett is what they always use and that since it was a storage building it didn't need venting. She said that they were suppose to clean up and she didn't know why that hadn't happened, that one of the workersthat was there is a supervisor (he inspected the work), and finally that they wouldn't warranty their work because the roof leaks. Funny that was never mentioned when I had them or any other contractor out to inspect the building and give me an estimates on the repairs. I feel I was partially at fault because I did not insist on a written estimate. That may have clarified most of it but in the end it still comes down to the fact that the work does not look very professional, they did not inform me when they inspected that the roof leaked and needed to be replaced vs just repairing the eaves damage, and they did not clean up after themselves. If they had informed me that the damage was due to the roof leaking then instead of wasting money on repairing the eaves I could have spent that money on repairing/replacing the roof. They did offer to give my check back but since I agreed to the work without clarification of what they were going to do and materials used I feel they deserve some payment. I am waiting to send them the final payment pending them cleaning up as they have already agreed it should have been done.
