I'm very happy with the quality of the Marvin Windows. I like the fact that they tilt in for cleaning and that they are sort of stainable which is unusual for fiberglass. Since the fiberglass windows were thicker than the aluminum originals, the sills and inside wall of the window frames had to be cut out to fit the thicker window. In addition, stone and mortar had to be cut out around about half the windows including 3 large picture windows in the living room That's a big job and very messy. They did a very good job of isolating the dust to the outside of the house. And the appearance turned out very nice. They could have cut a straighter line on one of the sills, but overall they did a very good job and I am very pleased with the work.
On the whole I give Sooner State an A. They were patient with me while selling, The owner came out to address my concerns about the installation and issues with granite counter tops, as well as the size problems already mentioned. He worked out the issues with me and we came up with a plan for the installers that addressed my concerns. The installers did a very good job, and I was impressed with their desire to please me.
I had Sooner came out and give me an estimate on sidings and windows. They were the most reasonably priced with no pressure to sign that day. In fact, I told the salesman I had to sleep on it and would call him the next day. The next day I called and he drove back to Shawnee to sign the contract. The crew came out about 3 weeks later. Kenny and Brent who did the siding were really good guys. The windows and siding made a huge difference in the appearance of the house. They did such a good job I hired them (Sooner State) to come out and do a 21 foot room extension, update the kitchen and 3 bathrooms. The Project Manager, Danny has been significantly instrumental in design ideas and in keeping the project on time. Plus, he is very easy to work with, addressing any concerns and being available off hours to discuss the invariable questions I have that I didn't think of during the day. After the remodel and addition is done I will be sure to update the overall experience. But so far, all is well and I recommend them highly.
Update 1/5/15:
Kitchen-
Incomplete as of 1-5-15. Cabinets have been redone minus a few minor touchups. Went about 7 weeks without a stove because the cabinets and countertops were not done. They finally put some plywood down and put in the new stove so we could at least cook. The problem wasn't entirely Sooner States fault. The guy they subcontracted the cabinets and countertops to, David Cheatam, caused the 7 week delay (cut his finger and one of his saw's broke) and walked out on the job when it came time to put in the countertops. Have to give credit to Danny Looney on getting an alternate countertop going quickly given the holidays. The new countertops will be granite which surprisingly enough is less expensive than Wilson Art acrylic.
Bathrooms-
Master bath not done as of 1-5-15. Same problem as kitchen. No countertops. I do think the shower could have been completed a long time ago though. Still waiting on ceiling of shower to be painted and for a plumber to hook up the new shower.
Middle bath not done as of 1-5-15. The only thing left is the new toilet, sink and countertop. I feel the new toilet could have already been put in.
Back bathroom: Nothing done at all to it yet. Waiting on one of the others to get done so we are not left without a bathroom.
Master Bedroom-
Not complete as of 1-5-15. Fireplace not done and it has to be repainted. They have been using it to spray on the stain to the cabinetry...drawers and shelves. It has been built out and looks great otherwise, especially the new tile.
Other-
Still waiting on installation of new lighting, new trim throughout the house, the new front door, putting the siding and guttering back up and new siding and guttering on the master bedroom, finishing the trim around the two new sets of sliding glass doors , a new mantle piece about the fireplace, new glass on some of the cabinet doors, and touch up some areas that need to be painted. I am sure there is something I am missing and will list during my next update.
Overall Opinion:
The good- I genuinely like Danny and his crew and the work they have done so far has been of good quality. His vision of the remodel has been spot on with what I imagined.
The bad- The huge pile of trash/construction waste in the back yard and garage. There has been only one trip to the dump about 7 weeks ago rather than a weekly dump run. Backyard and garage look like crap.
The ugly- There have been many times no one has showed up to do any work during the time we were given excuses by the cabinet guy. I think something could have been done along the way so all that was left WAS to install countertops.
I will update at the end of the month as that has been the new date given to me for completion of the remodel.
At this point I would still recommend Sooner State.
Update 03/04/15:
So much for getting done at the end of January. Danny and his crew did come out today and have it 99% done. The weather has played havoc with the timeliness of wrapping it up but the majority of the blame rests with them. They came out today to clean up and finish some small things like wrapping the outside air condenser line, re-concreting the fence post they had to take down to get into the back yard and sheet rocking the small area in the garage where they had to run some conduit, and a few other things.
What's left is to get the fireplace right in the master bedroom. It goes out when the wind blows and to fix the problem of the mantle piece getting to hot. Apparently the distance between the flue and the mantle covey where the T.V sits is not far enough part. A blower and a different end cap where it comes out of the wall outside is supposed to fix this. Oh, and there is a socket cover in the back bathroom that needs to be put on and some weather stripping on the storm door. I would wager that Danny and Joe re-examine everything to see if there is anything we all missed.
I do feel comfortable with going ahead and writing my conclusion so here it goes.
First of all, what you will NOT get with Sooner State is the fancy computer generated models of what your remodel will look like when all is said and done like you see on HGTV.
What you will get is masterfully done work by Danny Looney and a guarantee by Joe Jordan, the owner, that everything is done to your satisfaction. Danny had pretty much creative control and did a exceptional job. I have a new kitchen, 3 new bathrooms, a 21 foot bricked master bedroom extension, new master bath (shower is incredible) another redone bedroom, redone living room, a deck off the new master that was courtesy by them for the delay, and new light fixtures throughout the house. I am sure I missed something as it was a major remodel.
I would rate Sooner State Home Improvement an A on everything except timeliness. Overall I would say a B since it took so long. However, I think my case was the rare exception given the misadventures of the first countertop guy, the weather, the extent of the remodel, illness, and the crew just not showing up for whatever reason. My only complaint otherwise is the backsplash in the bathrooms behind the sinks. It is to thick or the cut was measured wrong and it makes the stopper handle difficult to get to. Minor inconvenience.
I would definitely hire them again even with the seemingly forever timeframe. It looks that good. I love my new old house. Danny made it classy and beautiful. Bravo Zulu.
Thanks,
Frank
P.S. They are supposed to come out and take pictures so if you want to see the quality of work performed I am confident they would be happy to share them.
"[Member name removed], first I want to thank you for your continued feedback as the work was being done. This is very helpful in making sure we are doing the work the way you envision it. We are all so happy that you are pleased with the work that was "Masterfully done by Danny". Our ultimate goal on each and every job, without exception, is 100% complete customer satisfaction. Second, we extend to you our sincerest apologies for the delays you experienced. As you speculated in your review, no, this is not the norm for Sooner State Home Improvements. We have always taken great pride in how consistent we are in meeting established time-frames on our jobs without sacrificing any quality of work. However, on your job we did fail to meet those time-lines, and I know this was an incredible inconvenience for you. Your patience and understanding through all of that was so undeserved, but so appreciated! So I can't express to you just how happy we were that we were able to fulfill your vision of just how beautiful your "new old house" would look. And it does look beautiful! Although I know this does not help on your particular job, I do want you to know that we have addressed the specific issues that led to most of the delay on your job (weather being the one and only cause we couldn't do anything about). :-) And one more thing I would like to add is that through it all, you remained friendly and kind, and always understood and showed patience. In all sincerity, it was a true pleasure working with and for you! We truly appreciate you, and we thank you for your business! We hope you enjoy your "new old home" for decades to come!"

Siding: little expensive but nice product.
Communication not great. I had to call often to find out when they were coming.
Salesman was a very likable guy.
Cleaned messes well.
Very favorable overall.
"Thank you for the great review and we appreciate your business. I apologize for the lack of communication and I appreciate you bringing that to our attention so that we can correct that in the future. Respectfully Joe Jordan"
It started out great. The presentation was good and the salesman was very knowledgeable and nice. His pricing even seemed competitive. However, when I told him we need to think it over a day or two to allow my wife and time to compare it with the other estimates, that's when things changed. That's when he put on the high pressures sales tactics. He told me we could not think it overnight or the price would not be honored. He said we had to decide on the spot because he was leaving town the next day. Basically, "take it or leave it". I asked him again if we could let him know the next day, he said no. The only reason we decided to do it was because the price seemed fair and we did like the quality and color of the windows. When we got a call a few weeks later to schedule the installment we were told they would be there on Monday at 2pm or 3pm (it was one or the other, I forgot which one it was). I told the gentleman on the phone that might work, I just need to check with my wife to make sure she could be home by then. He then said he would go ahead and schedule me for that time, but to call him back only if my wife could not be home at that time. I confirmed that I will only call him if we need to reschedule, otherwise put us down for that time. I never called him back because my wife was able to make it home for the scheduled time. He called me back a few days later to make sure we were all set for the following FRIDAY! I told him it was for Monday not Friday. He said he scheduled someone else in our time slot since I never called him back. I reminded him of the previous conversation we had about me only calling him back if we need to make a change. I then asked him to come at our original time, but he said he couldn't because it was no longer available. I asked him to call the other people back that he scheduled in our time slot and tell them to reschedule. He said he couldn't. He said he could squeeze us in later that Monday evening, but he will try to come out earlier if they could. I was very disappointed that we got bumped and he did not seem to care. In my opinion, I'm sure we got bumped because the other job must have made them more money since we were only getting three windows installed.
The quality of the window are great, but their customer service is horrible. I'm in sales and I would never tell a customer they had to decide now or the price will not be honored. Although we only had three windows installed we are planning on getting the rest of the house windows replaced next month. We would have liked to used Sooner, but now we will be using another company.
"I just want to say that all of our customers are very important to me and to this company it doesn't matter if its a big or small job. We run several appointments each day 5-6 days a week in order to be able to accommodate each customer and to be able to keep cost down our sales staff always ask for the business on the initial visit. That's why we typically offer a better price on the first visit because of the added expense of having to make a additional trip and taking time away from being able to see other customers. We do this to save us and our customers money and time. As far as the scheduling of the installation I'm sorry for the confusion during our first conversation I very rarely schedule a job without confirmation that the time talked about is confirmed at the time of conversation. That being said I do make mistakes and I apologize for the confusion. However we were able to get your windows installed on the Monday April 14th the day originally you ask for but it was later in the afternoon. We never schedule jobs based on the profit of the job its always based on when the job was sold and we try our best to accommodate every customers schedule. I'm truly sorry that you had a bad experience with us and if there is anything I can do to change that I would be more then willing to try. If you ever have any problems with the product or the installation please let us know and we will always be happy to take care of any issues. Sincerely Joe Jordan Owner"
thank you for the excellent results I had with Angie's List. I will recommend it to my other single friends.
"Thank you for your very kind words and I'm glad we were able to solve your issue with your window. If you ever need assistance with anything please don't hesitate to give us a call. Respectfully Joe Jordan"

On my first order of windows I was also getting siding repaired due to hail damage. Due to some miscommunication, the replacement of the siding was not completed. However, after I noticed the situation, they had the same crew back within in a hour to finish the job! That is true customer dedication! For the second job the crew performed, there was an accidental issue that arose while the crew was on the site. The next day, I informed the owner of the company of the problem, and by the next week he had compensated me for the cost of the issue. I feel that even though small problems did arise from both jobs, the company handled it very well and did what they needed to do to make sure it was done right! The best test for exceptional customer service is when something goes wrong and I as the customer can clearly see that they give it 110% of their time to fix it and make sure it's done right!
