Frustrated with the estimate, I went to the fireplace store "Fireside Concepts" and talked to Jason the owner about what had just happened. Jason gave me a lot of great advice on doing this job myself, and told me to call Steve at Red Plains Plumbing. I went to the Home Depot and talked to the plumber there and he told me I could run the gas line through the attics myself and save myself some money. He explained about the flex gas line and how to run it.
The 1/2 inch by 75 foot roll of flex pipe at The Home Depot was $125.00 plus tax. It took myself and my nephew about a half hour to run the gas pipe.
I called Steve and he said he would send someone out first thing in the morning. The guys arrived about 9:30 and after spending a few minutes figuring out where to tap in to the existing gas line they told me it would be a service call plus parts and got right to work. The total job took a little over 2 hours and along with the parts that were needed the total cost charged by Red Plains Plumbing was $337.50 the guys were great and were very knowledgeable. They didn't waste anytime and cleaned up after themselves. I am very pleased with them.
