I am convinced that Donne had someone who NEVER installed tile do the work, even though he charged a premium rate for our area. The first time I saw the work, I was surprised to find that the installers had thrown discarded tiles and grout in my trash bins despite a provision in the contract that they would not do that (and the trash bin weighed more than 50 lbs!!). It was apparent that the installers had a great deal of difficulty cutting the tile. Upon seeing the tile installed, I immediately LIKED how the tile looked but as I inspected the work, disappointment turned to nausea when I saw that the quality of work was not at all what I had paid for. Despite having uninterrupted access to the house, the installers 1) Never leveled the area around the floor vents before laying the tile; 2) Installed a cheap, plastic wood-like strip between the wood floor and the tile and improperly spliced it in the middle of the run; 3) Started installing tile from a corner of the room instead of snapping chalk lines and working out from the center of the room; 4) Never used spacers between the tiles so all the grout lines are excessive and uneven; 5) Didn't know how to properly measure and make tile cuts, leaving huge "gaps" under floor registers they tried to hide with grout; 6) Didn't properly back-butter the tiles--and I am reminded every time I hear the hollow sound of the improper bond as my dog walks on it--and it is primarily being held in place by the grout lines and will need to be replaced soon. Donne tried to convince me that nobody back-butters tile in Oklahoma and that a court dispute would probably side with him, but he did agree to have the installers re-work the areas around the floor vents--TWICE--and the last time the tile installer wrote on the floor tiles in pencil: Do not walk here. (AND we are no longer are able to lift the floor registers to clean them out or retrieve items that may fall inside--apparently they glued them down.) After that, I no longer wanted any of Donne's people in my house. When he came to remove the "lock box" from the front door, he held the key hostage, threatening to take ownership of our house if we didn't pay the full amount of the bill. Unable to trust his honor, we had all the door locks changed (FIVE doors total!), paid him the full amount, uncertain that taking him to court would bring us justice. The best we can do is make sure no one else hires him for tile work.
Description of Work: We purchased our home while living out of state. The night we closed on the property, there was a rain storm and the roof leaked. PRC Services was working in our realtor's home so we hired him to repair the leak. To the best of our knowledge, the roof was done correctly and we have not had additional problems; cost of repair was $750. Donne told me that he had started out as a painter and branched out into home repair because people found they could rely on him. Working over the phone and through the internet, Donne convinced me that he could hire the right people to install tile in our dining area and laundry room to replace the indoor/outdoor carpeting that was there. We agreed that I would purchase the tile and grout--and while I thought the labor cost estimate was high, I wanted to be sure I was paying for someone who could properly lay the 20" tiles that I took so much time to carefully select. They had 8 weeks to get the work done before our household goods arrived. Despite making frequent trips to be here in person, I was never able to see who actually was doing the installation--but based on the quality, I venture to guess that it was a day-worker or his offspring that he spoke poorly of. Even after almost 3 years, I am just sick about the sloppy work and the HUGE waste of money this project is. It will have to be replaced in the near future.
