The wait time can be from 15 to 40 minutes. The vet interacts with our pet very well. Dr Logan is what keeps us coming back. All the service is in one place.
This particular visit was my last because I had specifically asked for an appointment with a particular vet because I had had so many negative experiences with several of their other vets. The vet I asked for had been very good with my animals in a previous visit. There were two vets in particular that I was trying to avoid by making a specific appointment. Of course, one of the vets that I was not pleased with walked out to take a look at our dogs.
She had administered ear medication to one of our dogs previously, and that dog had an abnormally fearful reaction to her. A second time we saw her, she reported that the same dog had had a panic attack in the area they take them back to for procedures. She has never had a panic attack before or since. That vet seemed befuddled by my dog's nails falling off, and simply came back with a poorly printed copy of an article on vaccines potentially being the cause. She suggested fish oil supplements, and told me she would call me with a dosage amount I should be using. She never did.
At check out, I asked how it was possible to make an appointment with a specific vet, and I was told just to request the vet. When I explained to her that I did that exact thing and got the exact vet I was trying to diplomatically avoid, she looked very disturbed and told me she would ask around to find out what had happened. I explained that I didn't want to get anyone in trouble, but I was very frustrated that my dogs had been seen by someone who scares one of them and wasn't helpful previously. The receptionist returned with an apology and something about the vet probably saw a familiar dog's name on the roster and just switched the appointment to her name without asking anyone. The receptionist suggested I come home and write a letter to Neel on their website explaining the situation and requesting that I get appointments with who I make appointments with. This seemed ridiculous to me, but I understood the tone. There was drama between vets that Neel was trying to avoid by asking me to request the obvious.
My youngest dog had a bad reaction to her first set of vaccines from Neel, and I was put on hold when I called and asked for help because my very hyper dog was lethargic and breathing quick shallow breaths after her vaccines. I waited over 20 minutes on hold before I hung up and called back. I was put on hold again. When I was finally connected to a "nurse" not a vet, she was very dismissive and told me to just bring her back. I took her elsewhere.
Another vet, and younger male, was very rude and agitated during a routine vaccine visit. I have a feeling he was probably the vet that hit the cat in another review. He made me very uncomfortable. There are good vets at Neel, but they are the busy ones. They are the ones that it seems are impossible to get appointments with. They are also the ones that allow the poor care from the less experienced, less caring vets to continue. There is a serious lack of supervision and peer review of the vets at Neel.
The wait at Neel is excessive. You never see a vet at your appointment time. It is very busy. Half of the time we would be seen in their open area next to their waiting area, and when we did get a private room they were always hot and dirty. They do not clean between patients it seemed. The wait for the vet techs and vets are just as long or longer than the wait for the "appointment". They push their "wellness" packages pretty hard, and their prices are high.
I asked a Neel vet tech about the brand of flea medication that Neel sells, and she gave me a "don't do it" look. When I asked her if the medication was bad, she hesitantly told me that they had had several patients have bad reactions to the flea medication. She told me just to stick with Frontline, the medication I was already using. She said she would never use the brand Neel sells on her own animals. This company is about the money, not the animals.
The bad experiences at Neel far outweigh the good.
After weighing my animals, I was delivered to a small examination room with nearly zero A/C or ventilation. The vet assistant took a few vitals, but had trouble with the IPEs (Internal Parasite Exam). After a very slow process of her fumbling with the animals, I ended up helping her (I worked as a vet assistant in college). Not a big deal at all, if nothing else had been amiss. And I thought nothing of the IPEs--some vets include them in an exam, some do not. When the vet assistant began trimming the first dog's nails, I told her that I hadn't requested a nail trim and that I didn't want to pay for one or any other extras. She assured me it was just part of Neel's general vet check and I wouldn't be charged extra. I reiterated what I had said when making my appointment: I want vaccinations and a general vet visit only. She assured me that the nail trim was not a special item.
When the actual vet finally came into the exam room, I found out that I was actually being charged for a "wellness" exam, which was well over the price of a general vet check and vaccinations. I told him that I had not requested all the extras and had told the vet assistant that I didn't want them and he said there was nothing he could do. This wellness fee was charged THREE times because I have three animals even though the vet spent less than TEN MINUTES in the exam room TOTAL.
In addition to this frustration, the entire place seemed severely scattered. We were ushered back on time (my appointment was scheduled for 2:10 pm). The vet tech came to the room a few times, but we were in the exam room alone the majority of the time. I finally walked out of the building at 5:06. I have worked for a vet before and know the process of a vet visit. There is absolutely no reason for the visit to have taken THREE HOURS. While I was still in the exam room, I had assumed there had been an emergency of some kind and I would have an explanation or apology when I checked out. Not a single person acted like my three-hour visit was out of the ordinary.
The final icing on the cake: I thought at the very least it was good that the vet hospital had all my pets' records in case I had an emergency in the future. It came to light during my visit that their fax machine doesn't work. The vet assistant said the fax machine rarely works, but they tell people to fax records anyway (knowing that they won't be able to receive them).
I have just recently moved to OKC. I have moved several times to different cities and used several different vets, some of them very expensive. Regardless of cost, I have always felt like I got what I paid for...until this place. I didn't make a scene. I politely paid my $370 bill and left. BUT, I will not step foot in that building again for any reason. I'm currently shopping for a competent vet and emergency pet hospital.
I was referred to Neel for boarding my dog and was very pleased with everything! I think the wait at the check in could have gone a little faster, but overall, everything was fine! When we returned to pick, my dog came out looking happy and healthy!
