Making the decision to put Mischief to sleep was heartbreaking. Being a large, older dog with bad hips and hind legs, it is difficult to get her in the car to go to a traditional vet. We were afraid of causing her additional pain, and I didn't think I'd be able to hold it together emotionally in the waiting room of a traditional vet for that heartbreaking final visit. A mobile vet was the perfect choice.
We made the appointment with Dr. Acton, and she arrived precisely at 10 AM when she said she would. I was in the backyard saying my final goodbyes to Mischief when she pulled up. I think she would have done the euthanasia anywhere, but Mischief insisted on climbing in to her truck (we had to help her up a little). Here is how the procedure itself went: Dr. Action injected Mischief with a shot full of what I think was Valium. It calmed her, and caused her to relax and lie down (she was still fully awake at this point). Then a second shot was given. This one put Mischief into a deep sleep - she was snoring and looked really peaceful. At this point, if you don't want to stay for the final injection, your pet is completely asleep and won't know if you are there or not (I chose to stay, but not everyone may want to). The final injection is inserted directly into the heart, and stops the heart from beating. There's no pain for the dog (the owner is another story), and it looked very peaceful. In fact, I didn't even know the exact point Mischief passed, except for the fact that Dr. Acton put her stethoscope away and stopped listening to Mischief's heart.
Dr. Acton was very professional and compassionate. She answered all of our questions, and explained what was going on each step of the way. The entire charge (including body disposal) was about $235. I suspect this is higher than a traditional vet would charge, but it's so much less stress on you and your pet. No awkward waiting room visits, no having to walk out of the vet's office in tears after the procedure, no additional stress on your pet. It was worth every penny not to have to take Mischief to a traditional vet's office to have this done. If you have a dog that hates the vet, if you hate taking your dog to a traditional vet, or when you have to say that awful final goodbye to your buddy, I highly recommend this service.

I wanted to order my two dogs heart-worm medicine through 1-800petmeds. Dr. Acton refused to do a phone authorization, mail, or fax the prescription. She required me to go to her house to pick it up and mail it in myself. She stated that she didn't have time to get involved with third party prescribers. I stated that I believed that to be unreasonable, but go ahead and write the prescriptions and would would find another vet in the future. She said and quot;Fine, do it now!and quot;. Then hung up. Need I say more?
Prior to the above incident, service was shoddy at best. She also seemed confused and rarely had the correct meds on her van. I used her only to update shots or to handle an ear infection. It was convenient to have a vet come to the house since one of my dogs gets really upset at the office.

Response from Happy Tails Mobile Veterinary Clinic
"Mr [member name removed] called me in a very angry and irritable tone which apparently is a method of bullying which he thinks is effective. When he did not get his way he called me a f_____ c____. I have never had anyone call me that in my life and yes I did hang up on him and will never accept another phone call from him ever. I carry various heartworm and flea tick medications on my truck. I am happy to write a prescriptions if clients prefer to order products online and I have many clients who do so. I am mobile and I do not have an office staff to field phone calls and handle fax machines for these online services. However I have many clients who take their prescriptions and go to the online services directly. This man is an angry unstable person who is not a client of mine anymore. His opinion on anything is unreliable. Dr. Gayle Acton"

It went extremely well without all the stress for the dogs as well as I. This is a wonderful veterinarian and her mobile facility is equipped just like a stationary facility and clean. The cost is comparable and with 4 dogs at home this works best for me.

This was a very hard decision to make, and of course, today when Dr. Acton came Sally appeared to be feeling better than she has in months. Dr. Acton was very kind, giving Sally a valium injection, then a sedative/muscle relaxer to knock her out, then gave her an injection to stop her heart.
She was considerate of us and Sally. I don't plan on having another pet any time soon, but if I did, I would use her as our regular vet. She was professional, courteous and caring. I highly recommend her.

Dr. Acton drove her mobile vet clinic right to our door. She spent almost 2 hours examining Charlie and Lola (shih tzu's), gave them all their vaccinations, did blood tests for heartworm, gave Lola antibiotic for her eyes and we got 2 6-month packages of heartworm preventative. The price for all of that and all of her attention for 2 hours at an ultra-reasonable price. She was pleasant, great with the dogs and very accomodating to all of our issues. We love her! It was actually cheaper than going to a vet's office. It was so convenient to have her come right to the door of our home. We will use her from now on! Charlie and Lola liked her too!

Having a housecall is very convenient...especially if you have multiple pets or transporation difficulties. The Veterinarian was punctual, great with animals, obviously knowledgeable, and performed all services efficiently and compassionately. Compared with other veterinarians, I felt her prices were very reasonable and I was very satisfied.
