Greg is an excellent painter when he works. He worked the first day of the job, then did not show up the second day (Friday). He did not call and he did not return calls or texts for several hours. He gave 3 excuses why he was not there from he lost his helpers to his daughter was in a car accident to he just needed a day off. He started removing the ceilings and made a huge mess (not covering some of my furniture even), and then he didn't show up the second day! He showed up Monday the next week, but then was gone on Tuesday. I paid him Friday for what he had done to date so he could pay his crew (around $2000). On Tuesday of the following week he asked me for gas money so he could come to work! His crew were guys he could scrape together from wherever, and some had experience and some did not. He made a huge mess in my garage and house. I am still cleaning paint off doorknobs and everyplace they touched. However, he does a very good job painting when he does come to work. He also had me buy all the supplies, including paint, tape, caulking, paper, and drywall mud (not included in the cost above). He only provided brushes. tarps and ladders basically. He ruined a step stool of mine after he asked to borrow it and then covered it completely with paint and drywall. It could not be cleaned, and it was new when he started using it. If you use him, put down in writing how much he will be paid each week and hold back a lot more than I did for the end of the job. Plan for him to no-show on Fridays or at least one day a week. Don't be surprised when he does not call or text to say he is not coming or will be late. When he comes to work, he is a hard worker and is not afraid to put in a long day. When he gets close to the end of a job, or close to the end of the week and payday, he tends to rush to get there. He did not steal anything, and I could trust him by leaving him (and his crew) at my house all day without anything being disturbed. The biggest issue I had was the unreliability of not knowing when he would work or not, and the fact that he cannot seem to manage his money or his crew. Overall, I do not think I would use him again unless it was a one-day job and it didn't matter when he showed up to do it.
Description of Work: Removed popcorn ceilings in 4 rooms and painted interior of the house.
