In all my years as a member of Angie's List, I have never written a bad review like this one. I went to Green Acres Sod and ordered about a dozen rolls of sod. The owner (Lindell? Leland?) was very friendly with me, and I felt good about the transaction. He took the name and number of my lawn contractor, and he said he would call the contractor to let him know when the sod was ready to be picked up. There was rain over the weekend, so I wasn't surprised that he didn't call Monday. On Tuesday (today), my contractor texted about 10 a.m. and said he hadn't heard from the sod store, so I called and found out that the order was ready to be picked up. I assumed the store was busy and they didn't have time to call -- no problem. After picking up the order and arriving at my house, my contractor called and asked if I would be home for lunch to talk about where I wanted the sod placed. I left work and went home to meet him, and we walked around the yard talking about the bare spots. As I was getting ready to leave the house, I said, "By the way, what did you think of the sod store? Everything go OK?" My contractor wasn't even going to tell me the following story. He has worked for me for years, has always been an even-tempered gentleman, and has never even said the word "****" in my presence, so I believe his account: When my contractor arrived at the store to pick up the order, one employee was walking out as he was walking in and told him, "I'll be right with you." The owner was helping another customer (Customer #1). When the employee went back inside, there was some problem with Customer #1's credit card transaction, so the employee and owner worked together to resolve it. My contractor (Customer #2) sat down to wait. Then Customer #3 came in and was helped next, before my contractor. After that, the owner or employee asked my contractor if he was with one of the other customers. My contractor said, "No, and I was next, and I was just sitting here thinking whether I should leave." A little mouthy of him, but not hateful. Instead of apologizing for the confusion, the owner got angry and said, "Well, why don't you just leave, then?" My contractor said, "Excuse me??" in a similar tone, and the owner escalated into yelling profanities at him! My contractor said, "Look, if I wanted someone to yell profanities at me, I'd just stay home and let my wife do it!" (trying to lighten the tone a little bit). The owner remained in a rage, puffing out his chest. My contractor said, "I have a mind to contact the Better Business Bureau about you. This is no way to treat a customer. Whatever happened to common courtesy?" The owner said, "Go ahead and contact them! They don't know anything!" The owner stalked off, leaving my contractor to deal with the employee, who quietly tried to apologize and helped to get the sod loaded in the truck. This purchase was a small order because it was a test. I wanted to learn about the quality of the product and service. I need to re-sod the front and side of my house, which will involve a much larger order. If I had been present when this exchange took place, I would have felt afraid, much less how I would have felt if children had been present. I will be taking my business elsewhere.
Description of Work: The store sold me about a dozen rolls of sod. Decent price, but profanity-laced behavior = F overall.
