I noticed a leak underneath the counter where the sink was installed, but Gibraltar didn't have the plumber come back to fix it. They just had one of their supervisors take care of it. (I am watching that for future problems.)
The granite is defective in a couple places and I had to call the granite people to come out and try to fix it, but it still looks bad. Apparently, one of the installers had a chemical on his thumb and it left a big mark near the front of the sink where it is impossible to place something to cover it up. At the contact signing, when I asked what "Level one" granite inicated, Gibraltar told me it indicated the thickness of the granite, not defects. But apparently, it meant defects. Also, there is a spider stuck in one back corner of the granite, so I have to keep a candle or something over it so no one notices. I am still scaping the glue off the grantie windowsill that was installed by a kid that told me this was his first job (looked to be about 16). The granite people thought I was getting a tile backsplash and did not have any backsplash material when they came out, so they had to send someone back in a few days. Apparently, the granite people were not given any instructions about where to drill the holes for the sink faucets, so they asked me whether to drill them curved or straight. I had no idea and, of course, Gibraltar was not here and had not given instructions, so the faucets are so close to the backsplash that you cannot even get your fingers behind the faucets to clean!
When the tile people added the bullnose trim, it did not match the tile on the walls or floor. Gibraltar advised me that they were unable to get matching bullnose tile, so they had bullnose tile made from the leftover pieces of wall tile.
When Gibraltar cut the wall back, they only cut it back a couple inches, not the agreed upon length, so they had to do it over again. Also, Gilbraltar gave incorrect instructions to the electrician about placement of the light switches, so the switches had to be moved.
When the carpenter came to install the upper cabinet over the sink, he had not allowed for the electrical plug in, so had to cut a rough hole in the wood in my driveway.
A couple weeks after the combination light/fan/heater was installed in the ceiling, it did not work, so that had to be fixed.
It took the painter so long to texture and paint this rather small bathroom that my neighbors were all laughing; they thought I was having the entire interior of the house painted!
Then there was the "niche" in the wall tile for soap that was suggested by Gilbraltar before the contract was drawn up. It sounded like a great idea to me, but Gilbraltar failed to put that into the contract (and I didn't notice), so I didn't get it.
I was also disappointed in the cabinets. They don't have the same "finished" look as the cabinets in the Gibraltar showroom. There are some nails from the glides sticking through the wood on the inside of the drawers, so I have to warn guests to be careful not to get scratched when using the drawers.
Many of the problems encountered were due to lack of communication between the Gibraltar office, Gibraltar supervisors and the subcontractors. Also, when the contract was presented to me, the Gibraltar owner insisted that I sign it right then in their office, denying me the opportunity to have an attorney review the contract. Don't make that mistake with this contractor or any other!
We don't want others to go through anything like this. They have a terrible relationship with their contractors and they have no communication with them. We had to do a lot of the overseeing ourselves because it is a very poorly run company and its hurting people. I would never want to see someone get into a deal with anyone like them.
They tore up my driveway and fence and refused to fix both of them also. They just kept raising the costs. It is an unethical business. It was a mess and I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy.
The contractors that work with them don't like them and it is a shame that they are working in our community, Mike Casey is the owner. We would definitely use them again in the future.
