COOK'S FENCE & IRON CO INC

The cedar fence that Cook's installed is beautiful. The price was high but I wanted a top quality fence and that is what I got. The fence is straight and metal posts were used. The cedar pickets are about 2 inches wide and about 1/2" thick and even after all these months they still smell like cedar! I probably could have got a better price if I had checked around, but they were suppose to do other fencing---this is where the issue comes in----so I went with the $4000 because the whole project was a package deal. Or so I thought. It did take them over a month to come out and install the cedar fence, and I had been told originally that they would have the entire project done in several weeks. The rest of the project that they never even started on was a brick and wrought iron fence that would have enclosed the rest of my back yard. I agreed to pay $6000.00 for the additional fencing. I waited for a good 6 months for Cooks to put my fence up. I called periodically and asked when they would be out to install the fence and was always told by David that the workers would be here the next week. But they never showed up. I was even told that he had the bricklayers lined up and ready to go, but no one ever showed up. After about 4 months of waiting I began asking the secretary and David if there was a problem--if there was some reason they just didn't want the job--was it too small for them---Does the company not do this kind of fencing??? It basically got to the point where I just wanted to know why I was continually being lied to by this company---but answers were never forthcoming. I still don't have a clue. Just for the record, when they sent me the statement for $4000.00 for the cedar fence I sent them a check in the mail for entire amount the very next day. So after about 6 months I finally gave up and hired my own bricklayers, and painter and wrought iron people. The bricklayer I hired on my own had his part completed within the week. The painters came today and painted the brick and the wrought iron is to be installed in about 2 weeks. I should have blown Cooks off when they lied to me the very first time, but I didn't. So the next best thing is to write this review so you will know how they operate and you will be forewarned if you hire them to do your fencing. One last thing---by hiring my own people to do the work that I had agreed to pay Cook's $6000 for--I have now got it all done for around $4000. A $2000 savings is not bad at all. I would not recommend this company to anyone for any reason. All in all I have been more disappointed with Cook's Fencing than any other company I have ever worked with. P.S.--I would give them an overall grade of F, but the List won't let me because I gave them a higher grade on quality. And in all fairness the quality of the cedar fence is excellent. But the people who work for Cook's have no problem with lying to a customer and overall they were very lousy.
