This is by far the worst contractor experience I have ever had!! I have been remodeling and building homes for over 20 years. He boasts of having 18 to 20 years experience depending on which advertisement you look at. His brother and I think his nephew were the installers at my home and the nephew was out of elementary or junior high. It looked like it was their first "attempt" and the trade because it could not have had more discrepancies. The Midwest City Building Code Inspector condemned it for several International Residential Building Code (IRC) Violations and deemed it an UNSAFE installation. I had to had it all removed before he would let me continue the remodel. Even with all this, Corey Baker did not believe his work to be defective. Corey Baker sounded very professional and gave the impression that he knew what he is doing when he came out to do an estimate. This turned very bad very fast when I had questions about his work. As soon as he started I went out to the house and saw that he was installing the drywall in the wrong direction. He was installing it parallel with the rafters and on 24" spacing it has to go perpendicular. When I approached him about it, he simply answered "I got it", and the tone wasn't one of appreciation. A day or so later I went out and the ceiling was the same way and there were very few screws holding up the drywall. The screws that were there were protruding or had broken the face of the drywall. I asked him if he was going to put more screws in and fix the ones he had gone through the paper on and he said he would. After that I went on a vacation to Tucson Az. for about 10 days and asked him to send me pictures of his progress. They never came so as soon as I got back I went straight over to the house to see the product. I could not believe what I was seeing. There were gaps in the drywall, he had railroaded the whole ceiling, he did not use the required amount of screws to hold any of it on, and he had taped over the all the protruding screws on the ceiling. I immediately called him and had him come out to ask the questions. His answer to me was that he was not going to be judged on an unfinished product. I would have to wait till the end to see his finished work. He said he would be able to fix it, or float it out and would drive all the protruding screws in and retape the ceiling. Against my better judgement I left without firing him. The next morning I called him and told him to meet me out there without his workers and he said, "WHAT NOW?". I then told him that we would not be continueing the installation because the work so far was so bad. He said he couldn't make it out there until 1100 to talk to me. I immediately went over to change the locks on the house and he pulled up at 0900. He started gathering his tools while mumbling stuff under his breath. When he was done he threw the key I gave him on the ground, got in his truck, threatened me with a lean and yelled "You Started The WAR!" as he drove off. I went to the court house and filed for a small claims hearing to recover the money I spent to have his drywall removed and taken to the dump, the materials he used, and the initial payment he asked for. When I asked him if he was going to pay for all the damage he caused, he sent me this text, "B--ch u got life f-----ed up u sound nerves you will here 4rm us until then learn how 2 spell puento" Paint & Drywall Basically, I guess it meant that he would see me in court and I continued to get these kind of texts for the next couple months. On Sunday before the hearing he asked for the name of the drywall company that installed the new drywall so I gave it to him. He then called and asked them if they had installed new drywall but when they said yes he called them liars. He continued to call them liars and they finally got mad and a heated argument ensude. During the argument Corey Baker said he was an "Original Ganster" and that he and his crew would come and kick their as---. I had to call them and calm everyone down. We went to court on 22 February 2011 and he lost. He was required to repay all I had asked for. You can see the judgement if you go to www.oscn.net , Court Dockets, Search Dockets, and do a name search. He still has the photos of his installation that has IRC violations on his advertisement on craigslist. I asked him to remove them because I did not want to be associated with his company and he said he would not. I have lots of photos for anyone to view on this installation. These are the ones used in court and they show the discrepancies and IRC violations. **Baker's price was $ 2,000 for the install, tape and texture. The materials cost around $ 1,300. His install took over 7 days and was very bad workmanship. **The new drywall was installed for 2,695 in 1 day, included all materials, and looked great!! Sorry for the long input, but this has been a nightmare for me and I would like to keep everyone else from living another one.
Description of Work: I hired Corey Baker to Drywall, tape and texture a home that had been rebuit because of fire damage. After he installed the drywall I fired him before he could finish the tape and texture.
