Airtron replaced a capacitor (45/5 in 440V) for one of my units. Airtron charged me $246 for capacitor alone. Service call was $89 (which was fine) for a total of $335. Just bought (2) backups on Ebay for $18 each though I think you can find cheaper.
I can see a markup of 100%, but not a 1000% increase. Do your self a favor and go remove the back panel off your outside A/C unit and take a picture of the label then go buy yourself a back up capacitor in case it goes out. I gave them an Overall B rating due to fact they came to my house within 2 hours and were professional. After research, you will find capacitor replacements between $50 to $300. Mine happened to be on the high end and my fault for not researching further before I agreed to the replacement. The item took him 5 minutes to replace.
The technician, Gary D., was very kind and professional, but the overpriced part makes me bite my lip!
My review is as of 09-03-2014. A while back, I got a envelope from AIRTRON Heating and Air Conditioning in the mail. I thought it was an advertisement so I threw it away as I don't read junk mail. A few days ago, I receive an envelope from this same company. I thought I would open it to see what it was. Apparently, it was a past due notice that I owed this company $28 from the last two months. I called this company, AIRTRON to see who they were and why they thought I owed them money. Only to find out, the company I had a service contract with (One Hour) is out of business (no notice of any kind to that fact) AND my service contract is on and quot;administrative hold pending paymentand quot;!!! So I asked if I was covered, the answer was and quot;noand quot;. Uh, hello???? When was I, the customer, to be notified of any of this??? I am deeply, deeply concerned and very upset that this is how I find out. What if I needed service and called only to find out that I AM NOT COVERED??? After several calls to AIRTRON to try and find out any information, I am waiting a call back from someone supposedly in OKC, that doesn't answer their phone but gets email messages to call you back! If there are any other customers out there, you need to be very concerned about this new company, AIRTRON. I would be surprised if I got a callback today. Since I am not and quot;coveredand quot; anymore, I probably need to look around at other companies in OKC to service my machine. This company apparently expects people to just pay their invoice - and what services am I receiving in return? If you were in my shoes, you would be very concerned and upset at how AIRTRON does business...So far, very poorly.
not satisfied with that answer I called Interstate Heat and Air, they had a person out the next day, replaced the capacitor and motor (something about a ball bearing causing to lock up) While yes they recomended it needed replaced in the next 1-2 years, they got up and running.
After some conversation with the manager, the tech came out late that afternoon. He was competent, thorough, professional and very pleasant. We had paid TWO different companies to come out, and both charged us the same amount as One Hour, but didn't get the job done. But this young man did and we would recommend One Hour because of his good work, and the manger's wllingness to go that extra mile to keep his customer happy.
