I took his initial estimate and then requested to refine it slightly due to it being higher than I had budget for. They agreed to the slight price adjustment, and still offered to perform all the original work as outlined.
Due to the heavy Spring rains, we were not able to schedule the work right away - but his estimate of 2-3 weeks was followed up by a call a week later with a firm date, based on the latest weather forecasts. Once things dried out - his team, including his wife (who supervised and assisted the removal team) were here on-time and promptly went to work. They wasted no time getting the trees down, the trimming performed and cleaning up the stumps. Don, his wife and the entire team were professional and very friendly.
IT TOOK A FEW DAYS FOR THEM TO RETURN MY CALL BUT IT'S THE TIME OF YEAR ALL ARBORIST ARE BUSY. TOOK 3 WKS FOR THEM TO FIT ME INTO THE SCHEDULE BUT WORTH THE WAIT.
There was no urgency in getting the work done, so we agreed to wait until some time in January of 2014. Don, Stephanie, and his crew came today: everyone who came out was very efficient, clearly knew exactly what they were doing, and were great to deal with: they explained what they were doing, made suggestions as the work went along, and took care of a number of smaller things that needed attention but that we had not noticed before. Another thing that really impressed me is that they all really care about the health of the trees and other foliage, they all bring a lot of expertise to their work, and they're very gracious about explaining it to someone who has no expertise whatsoever (me).
Beyond the work they just finished, they really helped us out when, completely unexpectedly, several very large, heavy limbs came down in our yard during an ice storm on December 20, 2013. The debris blocked access to the yard and to the power line and cable, which these limbs had brought down. Although they were extremely busy with other jobs, after we contacted them they took the time to come by the house and remove the limbs that were blocking access to the yard, making it possible for the power and cable company to reconnect the lines. Don and Stephanie didn't charge us extra for this! The total amount we paid today was exactly what Don had quoted when he first visited us.
All in all, they're great people. Any time in the future that we need anything done, whether it's pruning or taking out existing trees or planing new ones, they are absolutely the ones we'll call!
He did suggest I add a systemic insecticide because of all the woodpecker holes in the tree. That means bugs in/under the bark and to stop the woodpeckers I had to get rid of their food. I did this the next week.
They took about 4 weeks to arrive but told me it would be 3-4 weeks so that was not any problem. They did all they said they would do
and did a very thorough job. They cleaned up all the trimmings and waste left from the trimming job. Don's wife was also on the job plus three other workers and everyone pitched in.
I WILL USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN.
Dan is an aborist and his wife is working currently on her credentials. They know their business.
We knew the work at my place would take most of the day. They arrived on time and worked professionally. Stephanie is an added bonus to any job; she is communicative, kind, and knowledgeable also. Everyone on the crew was polite and professional. They are responsive and sensible when, for instance, they find a possum sleeping in the hollow crook of a large tree, as they did on my property (we left Mrs. Possum alone).
In addition to the agreed-upon work, Don took out some stumps along a fence line that had made it hard to mow, and cleaned up under three large cedar trees so that we could mow under them and eventually get grass to come back. He also removed and ground a dead stump that wasn't in the contract, for a total of a lot of work that was well done, cleaned up professionally, and with no mishaps.
Tree work and removal is expensive and important to the aesthetics of any property. Tree Wizard does a great job in a professional, trustworthy manner. I would use them again, and recommend them for any job, large or small.
maple taken down. Don arrived a few minutes early and had already
assessed the tree in question, another tree I was curious about, and the
neighbor's tree which was hanging over into my yard. He was very
knowledgeable about what needed to happen, WHY the tree couldn't be
saved and what to do about the neighbor's tree. He called me a few days
before to let me know that his crew would be there on Saturday. They arrived on time (8:00 a.m.)
They were very careful not to cause any damage to the house or vehicles close
by. Came back the next day to grind the stump. All in all, a very
good job. I am very pleased with the entire transaction. Other two
contractors were either more expensive or not as knowledgeable about WHY
I had to take the tree down.
