They started the project by sub-contracting out the Granite bathroom vanity top. The contractor made an appointment to come out and measure the vanity for the granite top. He arrived as he said he would and completed the measurements for the granite counter top and advised us approximately how long it would take to get the granite cut and when it could be installed. So far so good.
When the granite was ready the contractor made an appointment and installed the granite and sinks and left to let the sinks set up with the granite. He was unable to install the backsplash because the storage cabinet was not ready and he needed it to determine the length of the backsplash on each side to the storage cabinet. He was also unable to drill the holes for the faucets since Re-Bath had not yet delivered the faucets. He left and said he would return when they had the cabinet and faucets delivered. Re-Bath was able to obtain one faucet a few days later, so the granite contractor could get the measurements to drill the holes in the granite. (This was the only time I had a problem with the granite contractor. When he drilled the holes, he did nothing to control the granite dust while drilling. He closed the bathroom door and when he finished and opened the door, the bathroom looked like a granite dust storm. I proceeded to open windows and turned on the bathroom exhaust fan to remove the dust before it settled in the bathroom and the rest of the house. He should have had a shop vac. and someone to suck up the dust while he was drilling the holes.)
After the holes were drilled, Re-Bath had a man spend all day installing one faucet and connecting the drain traps under the sink. I assume he was waiting for the other faucet to be delivered, but the other faucet was not delivered and this was on a Friday, I called Re-Bath and tried to get in contact with the owner, but it seems he was out of town and I was unable to find out what the problem was.
When the cabinet and mirrors were finally ready and Re-Bath came out to install them along with the light fixtures, low and behold, the mirrors did not fit in the space and the light fixtures were to long to fit in the available space. No one had thought to actually measure the space to size the two mirrors, so they had to take the mirrors back and rebuild them. The light fixtures were no major problem as they were able to get shorter, (3 light instead of 4 light fixtures) fixtures that fit in the space. Also during or about this time the installers from Re-Bath come in to remove the carpet and install the tile floor. The tile was called a floating tile floor, meaning it floated over the concrete and was not actually glued to the concrete. The floor was installed and it looked okay, but when you walked across it, it sounded like a squeaky old wood floor. We complained about this and finally decided to have them remove it. Re-bath agreed to do this. This left us looking to someone else to purchase and install a tile floor.
After the floor had been removed, we purchased tile from another vender and had it installed. Re-Bath had hired a new employee who had worked for Re-Bath in the North Texas area and he come out and completed installing the mirrors and the trim on the cabinet. At this time we were advised that they could have glued the tile to the floor had we wonted it that way. This was a little to late. Why the other people did not think of that I do not know.
After I returned and we'd signed the contract only then did he mention the option of 18-months-no-interest financing. I repeat, that was AFTER I had already decided to use them for the entire bathroom remodel and had made the down payment. Again no pressure.
The workers were prompt, tidy, friendly and efficient. They cleaned up after themselves in the house and on the driveway.
There were 3 things that didn't turn out like I wanted which they went to CONSIDERABLE trouble (and expense, no doubt) to correct:
- tile-looking material replacing wainscoting went up too high (they cut it back down and put a finish piece exactly where I wanted it across the top
- cut bolts off the stool and installed bolt covers
- installed a piece at the bottom of the walls to camoflauge a seam caused by the uneven floor.
One of the guys even shaped a replacement board for the front of the cabinet (which was my responsibility) with his own tools at home because he knew I didn't know how to get that done.
At first I wished the installer had told me the floor was uneven before he put down tile so I could have had someone level the floor first, but since the additional work no one will tell the floor is uneven unless they drop a sack of marbles in there.
Only 1 caveat: the faucet in to tub doesn't turn far enough for the water to get relly hot. They've adjusted it to the max.
